My Summary
About Me
I am a SEND & Behaviour Support Mentor with hands-on experience supporting children and young people with complex needs, challenging behaviour and neurodiversity within mainstream education.
As both a General Teaching Assistant and SEN Teaching Assistant, I have supported children with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, mutism, dyspraxia, developmental delay and complex needs. My experience includes individualised learning support, targeted interventions, hand therapy, Attention Autism sessions, sensory provision, behaviour support and adapting learning to meet the needs of each child.
I am particularly passionate about supporting children whose behaviour or learning difficulties can make it challenging for them to access traditional educational approaches. I believe that behaviour is often a form of communication, and that understanding the child behind the behaviour is the starting point for meaningful support.
My approach is child-centred, practical, patient and neurodiversity-informed. I adapt activities, learning and strategies around each child's strengths, interests and individual needs, with the aim of helping children feel understood, build confidence, develop independence and engage more positively with learning.
I offer 1:1 SEND learning support, behaviour and regulation mentoring, social skills/TUS sessions, learning support and hand therapy-based activities, tailored to the individual child.
I am continuously developing my knowledge through courses, training, webinars, conferences and professional reading because I believe supporting children well means never stopping learning myself.
My Experience
My experience includes:
SEND & Learning Support
Supporting children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and developmental delay. I adapt learning activities, break tasks into manageable steps and use different approaches to help children engage and make progress.
Behaviour & Emotional Regulation
Supporting children who experience challenging behaviour, frustration, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, anxiety around learning and difficulties with transitions and routines. I focus on understanding what may be behind the behaviour and identifying practical ways to support the child.
Attention Autism
Planning and delivering Attention Autism sessions to develop attention, engagement, communication and participation through motivating and structured activities.
Sensory Support
Supporting children to use sensory strategies and environments to regulate, feel safe and become more ready to engage with learning.
Individual Interventions
Planning and delivering targeted interventions based on individual learning and developmental needs, monitoring engagement and adapting activities where necessary.
Learning Planning & Adaptation
Working alongside teachers to plan, prepare and adapt learning for pupils with SEND, ensuring activities are accessible and appropriate to their individual abilities and needs.
Social Skills & Communication
Supporting children to develop social interaction, communication, turn-taking, listening, confidence and participation through structured activities and everyday learning opportunities.
Fine Motor & Hand Skills
Using my Hand Therapy training to support fine motor development, handwriting, hand strength, coordination and functional skills through appropriate practical activities.
My experience has taught me that there is no single approach that works for every child. I believe effective support starts with understanding the individual child, recognising their strengths and adapting the environment, communication and learning around their needs.
