Home Education Nanny / Companion for Year Old

We’re looking for a lovely, patient and enthusiastic person to support our 7 year old daughter, who is going into Year 3 and is home educated.

This is a slightly unusual role, as we’re not looking for traditional childcare. We’d love to find someone who can become a trusted and familiar person in her life and provide a mixture of home education support, childcare and genuinely fun days together on the days I need to work.

Depending on the day, this could include sitting with her and helping her work through maths or English workbooks, getting involved with one of her home ed projects, doing something creative or educational together, heading out for a fun day trip, visiting a museum or activity or simply planning a really lovely day based around her interests.

She also attends various clubs and activities as part of her home education, so we would need someone who is happy to drive her to these when required.

She is a bright, funny and inquisitive little girl but she can be anxious and needs someone who is patient, gentle and able to build a relationship with her at her own pace. For this reason, experience with SEN/neurodivergent children would be a huge advantage. A teaching, tutoring, TA or educational background would be wonderful, although we would equally consider someone with the right childcare experience who is confident and patient when explaining schoolwork and helping with age appropriate learning.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone who:

Has experience with children of primary school age
Has SEN/neurodiversity experience or a good understanding of additional needs
Is happy to support Year 3 level home education work and projects
Is creative and enthusiastic about planning activities, outings and fun days
Has a full driving licence and is comfortable taking her to clubs and activities
Is DBS checked
Is comfortable around dogs
Is patient, warm, reliable and happy to follow our daughter’s interests and learning style.

Above everything else, we’re looking for the right personality fit. We want her days with this person to feel fun, safe and relaxed and not like we’re trying to recreate a school day at home.

The role would initially be on an ad-hoc / part-time basis around my working days with the potential to develop into something regular if we find the right person.

We would love to hear from anyone who thinks this slightly unusual but hopefully very rewarding role might suit them.
