About Me

Hello, I’m Kay, a qualified Early Years Lead Practitioner and fully registered childminder, and I run Wyton Woodlings Childminding alongside my husband, Tom.

I have worked in Early Years for over 10 years, and since moving to Welwyn Garden City in December 2019, I have worked at Tenterfield Nursery and Waterside Academy, gaining valuable experience working within the EYFS and supporting young children as they learn, develop and grow.

After many years working within Early Years settings, I decided to become a childminder because I truly believe in the value of learning through play, with caring and knowledgeable adults providing the right support, encouragement and scaffolding along the way. I wanted to create a smaller, more personal environment where children can feel secure, develop trusting relationships and have the freedom to learn through their own interests and experiences.

I work alongside my husband, Tom, who is also a fully registered childminder. Tom is currently following one of his passions and training to become a Level 3 Forest School Leader. This fits beautifully with the ethos of Wyton Woodlings, where we believe the outdoor environment provides endless opportunities for children to explore, investigate, develop confidence and learn.

We are passionate about providing hands-on, play-based learning and making the most of the world around us. Our approach is influenced by Montessori, Forest School and The Curiosity Approach, while following the EYFS and supporting each child as an individual.


We are now open and able to offer both funded and private spaces as well as wrap-around care for children attending the following schools:

Springmead Primary School
Watchlytes Primary School
Panshanger Primary School

We offer childcare Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm, with snacks and meals included within our pricing, making life a little easier for busy families.
We are open most Holidays so are also able to cater for those who require childcare during these times.
