My Experience

In 2013, at the music college where I completed my teacher training, I achieved a success rate of 87% on a Level 1 Performing Musician course, which I designed and managed. (The course was commended by Ofsted.) As well as music subjects, I taught GCSE English Language re-sits and it was this experience that, after the college closed in 2016, inspired me to work in a secondary school, where I could focus on helping students pass their GCSE English Language exams, rather than have to re-take them in Key Stage 5.

In 2017, I began working at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, where I delivered GCSE English re-sit lessons, as well as working with small groups of students. The experience allowed me to teach across all year groups in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, so I developed a deep understanding of the set texts for both OCR and AQA awarding bodies for English Language and Literature GCSEs.

In January 2022, I began working at Brighton MET college, providing 1-2-1 Additional Learning Support for students with SEND. This post was funded by the National Tutoring Programme and when the funding ended in July 2023, I went back to secondary education. In September that year, I began providing 1-2-1 English and maths GCSE intervention lessons at Blatchington Mill School. Funding for that role ended in July 2025 and since then I have been tutoring privately.
