About Me
Hi, I'm Freya! I'm a music student at the University of Leeds but before that I was a full-time carer!
At the moment I am a "bank" carer as I only return home to Cornwall in the holidays/my breaks from uni and therefore I am around less often.
I have always been passionate about care, whether it be childcare or caring for those who cannot care for themselves, and it has been something that has been carried through my family for years.
I am first aid trained and DBS checked, as I have been certified and signed off as a carer.
I love playing piano and singing, a passion of mine that children love to get involved with too! I also taught piano lessons for a while, to children starting out in music! I've performed all over the place, including Glastonbury festival when I was younger, and I am a generally quite bubbly person as it's hard not to be when you're life is surrounded by music and fun!
My experience with children is not just limited to work placements - although the things i learnt at these are also helpful! but I have a baby brother, just 1 year old, and being 18 years older than him, I have learnt to care for babies as young as he is as well as toddlers and children!
My Experience
Through my previous caring work and experience with children, I have developed a strong understanding of how important it is to be patient, attentive and adaptable. Working as a carer taught me to recognise that everyone has different needs and that good care is about much more than simply completing practical tasks. It is about making someone feel comfortable, listened to and supported, while also encouraging their independence wherever possible.
I have experience caring for children of different ages and understand that their needs can change significantly as they grow. Looking after my much younger brother has also given me valuable hands-on experience with the routines and responsibilities involved in caring for a baby, as well as helping me develop confidence around toddlers and younger children. I have learnt the importance of being attentive to small changes in behaviour, communicating clearly and creating a safe but enjoyable environment.
I also enjoy finding ways to make activities engaging and personal to each child. My background in music means that I particularly enjoy incorporating singing, piano and other creative activities into time with children, while making sure that activities are suited to their age and interests. Overall, my caring experience has taught me to be responsible and reliable while still bringing warmth, enthusiasm and fun to the role.
My Qualifications
I'm a second year at the University of Leeds studying a bachelor in Music and Spanish.
I also have 3 a levels (Music, Sociology, and English Literature).
I was also an assistant teacher for a while in 2022 and again in 2024.
My Availability
I am available most days of the week, although I do have 1hr of lectures during the day. Sometimes they are able to be done online, whereas other times they are not.
My Fees
- Babysitting from £16.00 per hour
Driving (>10miles total) = 55p per mile
Driving (<10miles total) = no charge
