My Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Early Years practitioner, childminder or private tutor to provide 1:1 sessions for our 23-month-old daughter at our home in the Woolwich area.

We don’t speak English at home, and we are planning to relocate to Hong Kong where our daughter will be attending kindergarten admission assessments. Our main goal over the next few months is to improve her receptive English — particularly listening comprehension and her ability to understand and follow instructions from an English-speaking adult.

We are not looking for formal tutoring, phonics or academic learning. We would like the sessions to be age-appropriate, play-based and engaging, using toys, books, songs, puzzles, sorting, pretend play and other Early Years activities.

We would particularly like to work on:
• understanding everyday English instructions
• following simple one-step and gradually two-step instructions
• understanding colours, animals, body parts, objects, actions and basic concepts
• positional language such as in, on, under, behind and next to
• responding to simple questions such as “Where is…?”, “Can you find…?” and “Which one…?”
• becoming confident listening to and interacting with an unfamiliar English-speaking adult without relying on parental translation

I can provide examples of the types of activities and instructions commonly used in Hong Kong kindergarten interviews, and we are looking for someone who is happy to incorporate these goals into their own play-based Early Years approach.

Experience with children around age 2 is very important to us. A background in EYFS, nursery work, Early Childhood Education, Montessori, EAL or speech and language development would be particularly welcome.

Ideally we are looking for 1–2 sessions per week, approximately 30–45 minutes per session, at our home.
