Hello, I’m a qualified teacher with a passion for helping young children develop a love of learning, particularly in the early stages of reading and phonics.
Through Play Grow Bloom, I offer fun, supportive and engaging tutoring for children in Reception and Key Stage 1, with a particular focus on phonics, early reading and preparation for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
I understand that every child learns differently. My sessions are therefore tailored to each child’s individual stage, needs and confidence, using a mixture of games, practical activities, reading and targeted phonics practice rather than simply completing worksheets.

? My Approach
My aim is for children to leave each session feeling more confident, not overwhelmed.
Sessions are relaxed, encouraging and play-based where appropriate, while still having clear learning objectives. I believe children learn particularly well when they feel comfortable, successful and genuinely engaged in what they are doing.
Sessions can be delivered 1:1 or in small groups, depending on the child’s needs and the programme available.
I can also provide parents with simple ideas and activities to continue practising at home without turning reading into a battle.

Sessions are available in the Play Grow Bloom Cabin in NE5, creating a calm, child-friendly learning environment.
I am also happy to discuss other suitable arrangements depending on location and requirements.

I am a qualified teacher with 12 years of experience working with children across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1).
Throughout my teaching career, I have developed a strong understanding of how young children learn, particularly in the important early stages of phonics, reading and literacy. I have experience adapting learning to suit individual children, helping them build both their skills and confidence.
I have also worked as a childminder for 4 years, providing a nurturing, home-from-home environment and supporting children’s learning and development through play and purposeful activities.
Alongside my teaching and childminding experience, I have 6 years of experience as a tutor, supporting children on a more individual basis and tailoring sessions to their specific learning needs.
My combination of teaching, tutoring and early-years experience allows me to offer sessions that are educational, engaging and child-centred, with a particular focus on helping children feel confident and positive about their learning.
