My Summary

My Experience

I’ve always had a strong interest in children and childcare, even from a young age. I went to a Montessori school myself before moving to a mainstream primary school, and I remember spending my Friday ‘Golden Time’ helping out in the Reception and Nursery classes. I loved being around the younger children and getting involved with whatever they were doing. When I had the chance to do work experience at secondary school, I chose to spend it at a Montessori school, which I absolutely loved.

After school, I moved from London to Birmingham to study Fashion Branding and Communications at university. I’ve always been very creative, so it was a subject that really suited me, and after graduating I stayed in Birmingham for a few years and started my career in marketing. I’ve now worked in marketing for around six years, across a few different industries, and have particularly enjoyed the creative and people-focused side of the work.

After a few years of working, my partner and I decided to take a bit of a leap and go travelling. We spent around three years travelling and working freelance, which was such an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to live in some really different places and meet all sorts of people. Along the way, we did a number of Workaways, where you exchange your time and skills for accommodation. One of my favourite experiences was living with a family in Switzerland and working as an au-pair for their four children, who were aged between 4 and 14. I helped with their day-to-day routines, cooking, games and activities, and generally being an extra pair of hands for the family. I absolutely loved being part of family life and it reminded me how naturally I enjoy being around children.

Eventually, we decided we wanted to settle back in the UK, but weren't quite sure where. We spent some time pet and house sitting around the country, which gave us the chance to experience different places before deciding where we wanted to put down roots. We eventually chose Bristol and have really fallen in love with it – the green spaces, independent businesses, creative community, music and arts scene, and just the general feel of the city.

I currently have a remote marketing job alongside looking after pets, but I’m now looking to move towards part-time marketing and childcare. Although I’ve enjoyed my career, I’ve always had this interest in working with children and I feel it’s something I’d really like to explore properly now. I’d really value being part of their everyday lives during such an important and formative stage.

I’m a naturally warm, creative and responsible person, and I think my experience of working, travelling and caring for animals has made me adaptable, highly responsible, practical and very comfortable being around people. I’d love the opportunity to bring all of that into a nannying role and hopefully become someone a family can really rely on and feel comfortable having around their children.
