About Me
Hi, I’m Jess, I’m 20 and I work in a therapeutic children’s home. I’m a very creative person and I’m definitely not afraid of being a bit silly! I love cooking and baking, crafts, games and finding fun, out-of-the-box things to do.
I’m really big on playful learning and try to find little learning opportunities in pretty much everything we do, without making it feel like a lesson. Whether we’re baking, playing a game, out exploring or just doing something completely random, I love encouraging curiosity and independence and helping children learn new things while they’re having fun.
I believe that children are much more clever and aware of what’s going on around them than they’re often given credit for. I don’t believe in talking down to children and think it’s important to explain things in a way they can understand, answer their questions properly and create a positive environment where they feel comfortable being themselves.
Working in therapeutic care has also made me very comfortable in situations that can be a little chaotic or challenging. I’m able to stay calm and think clearly, and I’m good at judging when a situation may need some humour and playfulness and when it needs firmer boundaries.
Kindness is one of the most important things for me and is at the core of everything I teach. I’m big on manners, treating people nicely and making sure children feel listened to and respected, while still having boundaries. Ultimately, I want children to feel safe and comfortable with me, but also actually look forward to me coming round because we have fun together!
My Experience
I currently work in a therapeutic children’s home, supporting children with a range of ages, needs and behaviours. I also have previous experience as a nanny/childminder for a baby and toddler, including day-to-day care, meals, play and routines. I’ve previously worked in mental health care, which has made me confident supporting additional and emotional needs. Before working in care I was also a chef, so I’m more than happy cooking and preparing meals!
My Qualifications
I’m currently completing my Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner qualification. I’m trained in First Aid, Safeguarding, Team Teach, TAP and PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy), as well as Autism, ADHD, self-harm, child development and trauma-informed practice. I also hold an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Paramedic studies.
My Availability
I work a rotating shift pattern, so my available days change each week. I usually have 4 days off per week and know my rota in advance, so I can be really flexible with daytime, evening and weekend babysitting!
My Fees
- Babysitting from £12.00 per hour
My fees depend on the number of children and how long I’m needed for. I’m happy to work on an hourly rate, or agree a set price for longer bookings. I’m very flexible, so please feel free to message me and we can work out a price that suits us both.
