Nursery in Deal
Our Summary
About Us
Northbourne Park Squirrels Nursery
Squirrels is the nursery of Northbourne Park School, a small independent school in the countryside at Betteshanger, between Deal and Sandwich. We take children from the age of two, and many stay with us through Reception and beyond.
Outdoors first. We have no tarmac playground. The children spend a large part of every day outside, in our garden, orchard, woodland and covered outdoor area, with a giant sandpit, mud kitchens, a trike track and climbing equipment. Forest School runs weekly with a specialist instructor, in all weathers. Wellies and waterproofs are part of the uniform for good reason.
Specialist teaching from the start. Alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage, children have weekly Music with a specialist teacher and French with a native speaker. The French comes from the school’s long-standing bilingual section for French-speaking pupils, so the children hear the language spoken naturally around them.
Known as individuals. Every child has a key person in our Early Years team. Parents get a handover at the end of each day and access to an online learning journal with photos and observations.
Part of a school. Because the nursery sits within our Pre-Prep, the children share break times with older pupils, join assemblies and take part in whole-school events. When the time comes to move to Reception, those staying at Northbourne Park spend time in their new classroom during the summer term first.
Hours and funding. Sessions run from 8.30am to 4.00pm, with wraparound care from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Families can choose term-time attendance or our stretched option, open up to 48 weeks a year. We accept 15 and 30 hours of government-funded childcare for both. Hot lunches are cooked on site, and a term-time bus covers Deal, Dover, Folkestone, Thanet and Canterbury.
Come and see us. Our free Stay & Play session runs every Monday in term time, from 9.30am to 10.30am, for children aged 0 to 4. There is no need to book. You can also arrange a visit during the nursery day.
Our Availability
Our Fees
- Childcare from £41.85 per morning
- Childcare from £27.90 per afternoon
- Childcare from £69.75 per day
Funded hours. We accept government-funded early education for eligible children. All 3 and 4 year olds can claim 15 hours a week from the term after their third birthday, and working families may be able to claim 30 hours. Funded places are also available for eligible 2 year olds, including through working parent funding and the 15-hour “Free for Two” scheme for families receiving certain benefits.
Two ways to use your funding: Families can take their funded hours in term time only, across five days a week, or stretch them across our 48-week year, across four days a week. With 15 funded hours, 10.00am to 1.00pm is fully funded each day. With 30 funded hours, 10.00am to 4.00pm is fully funded.
Fully funded places: A fully funded place, covering only the funded hours, is available subject to availability. No deposit or administration fee is needed for a fully funded place.
Additional sessions and extras: Families can add paid sessions either side of their funded hours, from 8.30am, and wraparound care runs from 8.00am to 6.00pm, with breakfast and tea available. Hot lunches and snacks are prepared on site; snacks and drinks are included and lunch is charged separately. Every invoice shows funded hours and any additional charges separately. Where a place includes paid sessions or extras, a refundable deposit and an administration fee secure the place.
Tax-Free Childcare. Eligible families can pay for additional sessions through a Tax-Free Childcare account.
Full fee schedule. Current session prices and a worked example of daily costs are on our website.
