Maria
Nanny in London
My Summary
About Me
Dear Mum and/or Dad,
My name is Maria. I'm half Portuguese, half Colombian. I was born in Portugal, but at the age of 2, we moved to Venezuela. My experience as a nanny began in a tiny town called "Charallave”, where I had the privilege of helping my mum with my brother (Mario). I was only 6 years old when I learnt to share my life with him, look after him and protect him. My identity has been highly shaped by these early memories. My passion for the world of children was reinforced by my love for the arts (I'm currently working on a children's illustration book) and my early career experience as an event planner at my family's events agency. I'm the best help for any children's event!
I moved to the UK in 2016, and my career has seen a good mix of private nannying and childcare, hospitality and corporate law. I formally studied to become a corporate solicitor in the UK and finished my Master’s in Law last year. I find the world of business and the frameworks of corporate law useful in embarking on my own solo project at some point (my children's book). However, the pace of corporate law is too fast for me. For that reason, I've decided to take the bag of knowledge that my education and experience in corporate law has afforded me to begin my editorial projects in my private time while I enjoy a softer life filled with children, cosy homely moments and fun.
The world of children is my real passion, and I want to allow myself the opportunity to live surrounded by more of them, as I not only enjoy the love and company, but I find their fantastic world of curiosity and imagination very inspiring. After all, I'm writing for them.
My Experience
As a nanny and childminder support, I offer more than experience with children. I love children. My passion is building fascinating experiences that captivate their tiny heads and turn their imagination into lived moments, something I've loved since I began playing with my brother in our garden and later turning birthdays and celebrations into memorable experiences for children.
I have experience as the party clown and animating children's events. I sing for them. I dance with them. I act for them. I play with them. I'm a crafty person and a fantastic homeschooling helper. I love to cook nutritious meals and make tea time a fun and enjoyable experience.
I understand that they need discipline, but also so much love, tenderness and compassion and their day-to-day life should be structured around dynamic activities to keep them entertained and stimulate their minds. I love walks in the park and playing with them.
In addition to my experience with my little brother and my time as an event planner, I have plenty of experience working privately with children. Just in my family alone, I'm the trusted nanny for most of my cousins' children and at any family event or friend's gathering, they will be found in my care.
I provided nanny care many times throughout my university time in Venezuela, before I moved to the UK (from 2013-2016). This is something I did alongside my Art studies and my role as an event planner at my family's business.
When I moved to the UK in 2016, I began my journey as a live-in au pair, where I looked after the most gorgeous 7-year-old little girl, Ana Patara. She was based in Cambridge, and I supported the family as house help too, including homeschooling and extracurriculars, and I was teaching Ana Spanish too.
I moved to London in 2017, and in addition to my time in hospitality and my corporate law studies, I have helped many families with childcare and babysitting from 8 months up to 12 years. Another way to earn pocket money at the time was to entertain children at private events.
Now that I have decided to adopt a more family-oriented life instead of pursuing the corporate route, I am looking to join a lovely family as a live-in nanny. For me, it's a lot more enriching and satisfying to support a lovely family and find a home investing in the nurturing care of a family unit than renting a shared flat with strange people I don't know at this stage of my life.
I'm looking for a structured base where I can help work towards clear and set routines and values, and it would bring me great satisfaction to know that the work I'm doing on a day-to-day basis is supporting the family development and unfolding of someone else; as for me, there is nothing more beautiful than children and family.
My Qualifications
I haven't formally taken qualifications for childcare or babysitting in the UK. However, I do have first aid in hospitality, basic health and safety training and DBS checks are a must in the legal industry. I'm happy to provide you with the most recent one, or we can take a new one. It is my intention to pursue formal qualifications in the near future, as I would like to train for home schooling and nursery support.
My Availability
Long term, I aspire to become an editor for children's publishing, and I'm currently developing children's illustrations for my book project. This is why a day-to-day surrounded by family, children and love is crucial for me. The pace of day-to-day homely routines would help my mind on the journey of children's editorial that I want to embark on.
For me, it's important to enjoy what I do; that's why I'm in no rush to hit targets, which gives me flexibility in adapting to the family's current dynamic and being spontaneous in my own pursuits.
My Fees
- Nannying from £20.00 per hour (gross)
I'm setting my fees at £20 per hour. However, we would need to discuss a plan with the parents. Since I'm looking for a place to live with the family and help them with the day-to-day, I'm flexible to negotiate a package with mum and dad depending on the family’s demands, the number of children, pets and the weekly schedule.
