Statement about me and my family

I am a mother of two young daughters, Mya and Tiana, who are just one year apart in age. Mya is currently four and will turn five in December, while Tiana is currently three and will turn four in December.

Both children have significant additional needs and require a high level of care, supervision, understanding and support in their everyday lives.

Mya has recognised additional needs and has recently secured a place at a specialist school, which is an important step in ensuring she receives the education and support appropriate to her needs.

Tiana is also showing signs of additional needs, and I strongly believe she requires a full assessment to establish her individual difficulties and what support she may need. Although she has not yet completed the assessment process, this should not mean that her needs are overlooked or that support is delayed.

Both girls have individual challenges with communication, sensory processing, routines, safety and development. They require a considerable amount of supervision and support throughout the day. As their mother, I understand their behaviours, communication methods and the signs they show when they are struggling or becoming overwhelmed.

Our family has also experienced significant upheaval and difficult circumstances, and I am working hard to establish stability and a safe, suitable environment for my daughters.

It is important that professionals understand that I am not simply caring for two young children; I am caring for two children with additional and potentially complex needs, both of whom require an understanding and supportive environment.

My priority is to ensure that Mya and Tiana receive the right support, that Tiana is properly assessed without unnecessary delays, and that both girls have the opportunity to develop, learn and thrive in an environment that understands their needs.
