My first time using a child minder so was unsure what to expect. I am a mum of three so not my first time raising a child. I left in tears almost every pick up at the negative handovers for my one year old child. Was consistently told every day “we’ve had a bad day, we’ve been grumpy”. This was so cruel to endure daily as a mum listening to such negative comments about my baby. My one year old was being expected to walk to school and then I’d receive negative feedback how he had refused and wouldn’t listen. I was told they had to leave play groups as he would not listen, take part, running away. He was 1. He was a baby. I never received any positive feedback. My final straw was arriving earlier than planned on driving in I could hear him crying from the car I got out and waited a good few minutes still hearing him crying. To discover childminder had left him strapped in a pram whilst she was eating in another room. Childminder looked alarmed to see me. We left and never went back. I seen many children leave in my short time using this childminder. Which I have now discovered is a red flag since finding a new childminder who never has availability. On challenging these events I was told it was honest handovers, however my new childminder and nursery have always praised how happy my child is and engaging. And he’d been left whilst she went to make a sandwich however the length of time did not portray this as well as how upset my child was.
