Sian
Compassionate School Support Worker / Health Needs Teaching Assistant Required for our Son
About Me
Hi there, my name is Sian and thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile :)
We are looking for a kind, compassionate and reliable person to join our son’s support team and help him access and enjoy his education.
Our 6 year old son is a happy, affectionate little boy who is profoundly disabled and has complex medical needs. He is non-verbal and is not yet able to walk or stand independently, relying on others for all aspects of his daily care, including communication, mobility, personal care and feeding. Although he doesn’t use words, he communicates beautifully in his own way with those who take the time to get to know him, and it is incredibly rewarding to build that relationship with him.
He attends a specialist school where he is supported by a dedicated and experienced team who know him well. Thanks to additional funding, we are now looking for someone to provide support with his health and care needs throughout the school day, working alongside his class team so that he can fully participate in learning and all aspects of school life.
About the role:
This is a term-time position, working 8:30am–3:30pm during the school day.
Your role will include:
* Supporting his health needs throughout the day.
* Administering gastrostomy (PEG) feeds and venting (full training provided).
* Assisting with personal care and moving and handling.
* Working closely with teachers, therapists and teaching assistants to maximise his access to education.
* Building a trusting, meaningful relationship with him and becoming an important part of his support network.
No previous experience with PEG feeding is required. We understand this can sound daunting initially, but comprehensive training, ongoing support and competency sign-off will all be provided. Experience supporting children or adults with additional needs, disabilities or complex medical needs would be welcomed, but a caring attitude, patience and willingness to learn are just as important.
Employment:
This is an employed role through Aspire, so you do not need to be self-employed. Aspire will manage employment, DBS checks, mandatory training and ongoing support. There may also be opportunities to work additional hours outside of school if desired.
About you:
We’re looking for someone who is:
* Warm, patient and compassionate.
* Calm, reliable and able to work as part of a team.
* Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
* Keen to learn new clinical skills with full training.
* Committed to helping a child reach their full potential.
This is far more than a care role—it’s an opportunity to make a genuine difference to one little boy’s quality of life, helping him access education, build relationships and experience everything school has to offer.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have :)
