I believe that spending time outdoors and having the freedom to explore is incredibly important for children’s development. I therefore try to fill as much of the day as possible with opportunities for children to explore the natural world through nature-based play. I understand that every child is different, so I adapt activities to suit their individual interests, personalities, ages and needs.
This could be something as simple as collecting different shells at the beach or taking a walk through the woods, going on a bug hunt in the garden, or working together to build a den. I love encouraging children to be curious, creative and adventurous while discovering the world around them.
I am also a creative person and really enjoy doing arts and crafts with children. I’m definitely not afraid of getting my hands dirty and love joining in with their ideas and imagination!
I would describe myself as an outgoing, happy and approachable person. I have lots of patience when working with children and believe that being a good listener is an important part of building positive relationships with them. I am always happy to help, offer support and give advice when needed. I communicate well, work confidently as part of a team, and am always open to new experiences and challenges.
My Experience
I have over 19 years experience working with children, including nursery work in my hometown of Exmouth, Devon, nannying for families in Cornwall, and working as a fully qualified Forest School Practitioner at a local woodland school in Constantine.
During my time in nurseries, I worked as a Room Leader and Senior Nursery Nurse with children aged 6–18 months, as well as a Key Person for toddlers aged 2–3 years. My role included planning activities around each child’s individual development and interests, following the EYFS, building strong relationships with children and their families, and working closely with other staff.
I also worked one-to-one with a child with additional needs, supporting their development across all areas and working closely with their parents, SENCO and other professionals to provide consistent support.
I have also gained valuable experience working abroad. While living in Australia, I spent nine months as a live-in nanny for two children aged 2 and 5. My responsibilities included organising outings and activities, preparing meals, managing daily routines, nursery drop-offs and pick-ups, and working closely with their parents and other carers.
Since moving to Cornwall in 2017, I have worked as a live-out nanny for three families, caring for children ranging from 8 months to 12 years. My current family no longer requires a nanny from March 2027, so I am now looking for a new family to become part of.
Alongside nannying, I continue to work at a local woodland school, combining my love of working with children and the outdoors.
