Hello, I'm Katy,
I live in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire and have been a Ofsted registered Childminder since 2005. Before that I was a Senior Teaching Assistant working in the inner city of Nottingham.
I have 38 years child care experience, am a qualified NNEB ( two years full time Teaching Assistant course) and have a Degree (BA Hons in Education, Early Years)
I consider myself an 'Outstanding Childminder' and was graded Outstanding in 2009 & 2016 and Good at my last inspection in 2022. I'm still Outstanding : )
I am a member of PACEY, (Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years) and have been fully DBS checked as have everyone who lives here.
I live in a large Victorian house and have four daughters, triplets aged 24 and a 20 year old at University. We live very close to the centre of West Bridgford, near to local parks, the library and the schools. Myself and other Childminders daily visit soft play areas, toddler groups, libraries, parks and further afield trips include Rufford Abbey, Rushcliffe Country Park, Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Park and Strawberry picking etc.
Since the beginning of lock down we have embraced the Forest School ethos, it is something we have always been interested in but it gave us push we needed, we now spend many days exploring the woods, country parks and canals locally. We look closely at nature, learning tree, flower and bird names, often painting outdoors what we see, we hang hammocks from trees so we can look up into the canopy, we light fire to roast marshmallows and use hammers and nails to make hedgehog replicas. We are out everyday in all weathers, rain or shine and our learning comes from the natural classroom. the woods. We have a large tarpaulin for shelter when reading stories or eating our lunch.
I work closely with another lovely registered childminder who lives nearby, this enables more flexibility and has proved invaluable as on the very odd occasion when I was ill, my colleague was able to care for the child. This has only happened once since 2005 as I am not ill very often !
Non smoker.
We have one small friendly dog, a Cavapoo called Nell.
My Experience
I qualified as a Nursery Nurse (NNEB) in 1986 and have worked in State Schools and School Nursery units for 13 years. I have a lot of experience working with the under fives (30 yrs +) and have knowledge of and have used child profiles including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Whilst working in schools I attended numerous courses and training. I also completed a University Course in Early Years (STAR) which has been invaluable.
I began child minding when my youngest child was 2 yrs old and love my job working with children.
My aim is to provide a safe, caring environment where children learn through play,( an important aspect which is often overlooked,) in a secure fun environment. I care for a maximum of three children during the day and can therefore provide lots of individual attention to your child. I realise the importance of good quality childcare and can provide a first class service to you and your child.
I am very keen on the forest school ethos and we spend plenty of time exploring the wood with another childminder and their children
I record the day with photographs and provide parents with a private closed Facebook page detailing the child's activities. All meals are included and I provide a home cooked dinner daily. I have a 5 star food hygiene rating (5 = Very good).
I also provide before and after school care to children who attend West Bridgford Infant and Junior schools

I completed a Degree-
BA (Hons) Education (Early Years) at Nottingham Trent University in 2014;
I have found this very useful in my professional practice.

My Availability
From Sept 2023 I will be working;
Monday 7.30am-.5.30pm
Tuesday 7.30- 5.30pm
Wednesday 7.30am .-5.30pm
Thursday 7.30am- 5.30pm
Friday 7.30am -9am.
Although I try to finish at 5.30pm, I am flexible and will work with parents wherever possible to accommodate their needs. A small charge will be made for later pick ups
I can do earlier starts by arrangements eg. 7.00 am.
Because of family commitments I work term time only but do work occasional school holidays. I am very flexible and try to fit in with the parents needs as much as possible.
I am registered for over night care £50

I offer day care and I also offer before and after school care for school aged children
I pick up from West Bridgford infant and Junior schools only.

My Fees
- Childminding from £6.01 per hour
- Babysitting from £9.00 per hour
Daily charges :
Term time care 7.30am -5.30pm- £ 55 a day, this is because I charge term time only (39 weeks) and do not charge during the 13 weeks school holidays, I charge slightly more term time. where as a nursery will often charge 52 weeks a year
(includes all cooked meals and snacks and daily outings )
I do offer some holiday cover.
I do offer extended care from 7am, please speak to me about this if you require extra hours. small charge applicable
For school aged children-
Before School care - £ 9.00 - from 7.30am (including breakfast if required)
Earlier starts by arrangement eg. 7am - £11.00
After school care - £13.50 until 5.30pm (includes cooked dinner)
occasional later pick ups by arrangement, small charge applicable
-I work occasional school holidays by arrangement
-I have spaces for day children on a Tuesday only.
-Before and after school I currently have spaces for over 8s only

When we found Katy we had been deserted by another childminder, just prior to my return to work. After a lot of searching we were able to have our daughter May with Katy one day and another childminder another day. Once I moved jobs we were able to have Katy take care of May both days. She has cared for May from 10 months and continues to care for her now that she is nearly 3 years!
Bringing up children is an unpredictably, exceptionally difficult thing to do. Katy has made the journey a lot more manageable.
In Mays first few weeks with Katy it was clear that Katy had a lot of knowledge and experience in how to deal with the transition. She not only reassured me, but made sure that May was able to feel in control of each new occasion, as I left for work. May quickly became eager to join Katy at her house.
Since then I have seen Katy's continuing professional development, through research, training and gaining experience, not only have an outstandingly positive impact on how May develops during her time with her, but also helped me care for May better.
It is easy to see that Katy enjoys putting new educational and developmental theories into practice. She is skilled at recognising which techniques work for her and her individual children. May has clearly advanced, socially, emotionally, and physically, whilst learning new skills in Katy's care.
May has also benefited from being around children of different ages. She often talks about the other children and what they do differently to her. As well as this, Katy offers new experience for the children and (I have no idea how) takes them on trips, which May later tells me out.
Katy's feed back about May has always been extremely precise and observant. She is careful when discussing any issues and honest in reviews. She has even made me notice things about May which I might have overlooked.
We are overwhelmingly pleased that May is with Katy when we're not there. I can't recommended her highly enough.
