My Experience

I have been working in childcare for the past 15 years as a nanny, an aupair, a play worker, a teaching assistant in primary school, and a nursery practitioner.
I also worked as an SEND carer.
I have looked after children from the age of 6 months up to 13 years old.

I have a BA in English and American studies and I completed a child psychology course and I a child and adolescent counselling course a couple of years ago.

When working with children, I like to interact with them, play games (board games, dodgeball, hide and seek, and lots of made up ones...). I always try to spend a good amount of time outside every day, no matter the weather. Going to parks, playground, going on adventures and treasure hunts (who doesn't like a nice collection of sticks and stones ?). I love planning trips to the museum or the library on rainy days. My absolute favourite though is arts and crafts, building castles out of cereal boxes, Dinolands out of egg boxes and cardboard and bottle lids. Recently, the twins and I created a whole arcade centre full of activities and games all made out of paper cups, paper plates, loo rolls and other recyclables. It was amazing and everyone enjoyed it! Even the grown ups!

While learning through fun activities is a very important aspect of looking after children, I do believe that the most important part of being a nanny is to build a trusting, caring relationship with the whole family based on mutual respect and create a healthy, safe and loving environment where children can happily grow and explore.
