Pa Needed To Support A Disabled Mum With 10 Year Old Daughter
About Me
I’m a wheelchair user, disabled by a chronic illness that leaves me very exhausted by small things and makes moving difficult. My daughter is a gorgeous, sometimes challenging 10-year-old who loves Harry Potter, computer games and horses. She's autistic and currently has Selective Mutism.
I’m looking for somebody to join the little team of people who help us live a wonderful life despite my illness.
My Requirements
I'm a disabled parent looking for someone to support me and my daughter in our day-to-day life. I have limited mobility and energy, and I have an autistic daughter with selective mutism (which is a phobia of the pressure to talk in certain situations.)
We regularly need someone on Mondays after school (ideally 3.15-9pm), and often need help on Saturdays too. However, it's also really important to find somebody who can cover when other PAs are ill, on other days of the week - ideally before and after school, but timing of cover shifts could be flexible. So if you could be available flexibly to do a few hours' shift most days of the week, but you're not free after school on Monday, do get in touch.
We need support with our daily routine, housework, cooking and laundry. We also need someone to support us to get out and about e.g. to church, concerts, swimming and to the beach. Some shifts involve supporting me as I parent my daughter, rather than working directly with her; and we have other shifts available which are directly working my daughter as PA - e.g. playing a game with her at home, supporting her with a playdate, evening babysitting or taking her out on a trip.
Due to the council funding setup, we can pay £13.92/hour for shifts which involve direct care of my daughter, and £17/hour for all other shifts.
Essential:
- Self-employed, or willing to be self-employed*

(these are the core shifts we need, but we can offer additional regular shifts if you like!)
- Available to cover shifts when other PAs are unwell, Mon-Fri 7am-11am, 11-1.30pm and 2.45-9pm and Sundays, 8am-2pm or 3-9pm
- Experience working with children
- Available to do some additional evening babysitting as required (usually between 6pm and 11pm)
- Some experience in supporting people with any of the following: disabilities; chronic illness; autism; selective mutism
**The council ask to see the following as proof of self-employment
- A unique taxpayer reference number (which you get when you register as self-employed on the government website)
- Typed invoices every 4 weeks with your name, address and details of hours/dates worked
- Proof of self-employed carers insurance (which usually costs around £70/year or can be paid monthly.)
