My Experience

KEY NANNY EXPERIENCE:

- Transitions: getting used to handovers between parents and new nanny, weaning, potty training, new siblings, nursery start, school start, change in family circumstances, distancing from best friends.

- Separation anxiety: patient, calm, warm and light approach to first and recurrent periods where children intensely react to parent(s) leaving their space. Implementing verbal reassurance, loving physical approach, and positive distractions.

- Assisting children to learn to find a mental and physical space to calm down when needed. Warm, concise and eye-to-eye level communication when dealing with dramas or challenges. Always end with a hug followed by playful distraction.

- Planning, cooking and exploring a nutritious and varied diet; very keen on involving children in the whole process of eating from choosing foods at the market to inventing new recipes and treats together.

- Encouraging children to be clean and tidy with themselves and their indoor and outdoor environment.

- Inspiring children to explore, try new activities, overcome difficulties, and recognize their emotions.

- Educating on sharing and taking turns with others.

- Taking opportunities throughout the day to bring and integrate knowledge such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration skills, basic mathematics, spelling and reading.

- Overcoming fear of animals. Patient and progressive interaction with the animals in question while teaching children to recognize animal behavioral cues, manage their emotions and modify behavior to avoid danger.

- Traveling abroad with family and one more staff member.

DUTIES:

- Creating safe and stimulating environments for the children considering their mental, physical and emotional development and approaching milestones.

- Planning and following a varied and nutritious diet.

- Implement toy rotation, toy/books exchange with friends, local library or local playgroup.

- Encouraging children to personalize and organize their belongings and spaces to attain appreciation of their active role in their home and increase confidence.

- Ensuring school uniforms, sports outfits, school bags, lunch packs and day trip bags are well prepared in advance. Keeping on top of wardrobe needs weeks ahead

- Encouraging independence throughout their daily routines: from potty training and introduction to brushing teeth, to prepare their own school bags and needed items for the day ahead.
