Babysitter in Edinburgh
My Summary
Home Away From Home Setting
About Me
I became an approved foster carer in June 2011. My little boy has been with me since he was 8 months old. I'm very proud to been awarded his Parental Rights in August 2015 and subsequent adoption. He is now 11.
My experience is more for younger children from birth.
In my ‘previous life’ after studying law and business studies, I developed businesses in the Restaurant/ Hospitality sector. Having always loved children and having had much experience having become an aunt aged 3. Hitting 40, I took the sideways step to foster as mentioned above...
The lengthy process to foster is a thorough one regarding background, experience and both personal and professional references/ detailed vetting; I have full disclosure and paediatric first aid and various courses completed relating to childcare, attachment theory, additional needs etc.
My choice is now to care for other children in a very small group capacity- 1:1 or 2, maximum 3:1.
I find this number easier to manage and more flexible in engaging children as apposed to the 5:1 ratios many childcare givers offer.
Having moved my 89 yr old mother through to Edinburgh from Glasgow in 2019, as apposed to her going into a nursing home, I continued to work part- time with one young child who was particularly close to my mum.
Sadly mum died at the end of 2020 after a great year together as a family and despite Covid.
I am also training to sit on SCRA Children’s Panel.
I care mainly for children in our home in Trinity. We have lots of space, a playroom, spare bedrooms for naps and private garden front and back. Located few minutes from Victoria Park and easy walking distance to Ocean Terminal and David Lloyd gym, great for children of all ages, where we are members.
June 2026 update- I am preparing to say farewell to two small people about to start p1. Both children have been coming to me since 10 months old and it’s been a joy to watch them grow and thrive.
My Experience
As detailed above, I took a career change from the business world to foster in 2011. I had grown up caring for children of family and friends and always had an affinity with and enjoyment of small people and in encouraging their development and watching them grow.
My Qualifications
Former foster carer with both 'Tact' Charity then City of Edinburgh Council

My daughter has been cared for by Laura for 4 years and we are incredibly sad this period is coming to an end when she starts school in August, though Laura will always be a part of our family here. She has provided a real home away from home for our now two children and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about her. My daughter went 5 days a week from 10 months til 3 years. She then reduced to one day a week ( joined by her brother) when we moved across town as we couldn't bear to move fully away! "Laura Day" is always their favourite day of the week and the easiest to get them out the door for !!! I am a medical professional and am extremely confident and comfortable leaving my kids with Laura. They do lots of trips out coupled with imaginative play in her home, she has a safe enclosed back garden and food is always home cooked. In short, I couldnt recommend Laura enough!

Laura is a gem, who we feel so lucky to have found via this app! She and her home are a warm, safe place and we have no qualms about dropping off with her in the morning.
Our daughter has been going part-time for 3+ years, and is always greeted warmly by Laura’s big, friendly no nonsense personality. Her home and garden are big, comfortable and contained so children can have independence and explore; or alternatively have some downtime and a big Laura cuddle on the sofa when needed.
Laura takes the children in her care into the fold and together ‘the gang’ go out and about the park/town/cafes/soft play, and they have the time of their lives.
Importantly for us Laura is also flexible, responsive/easy to contact and very open.

Laura is absolutely amazing, she's so lovely and my son warmed to her very quickly. He always looked forward to seeing her and her child. Very lovely home, with views by the sea and lots of opportunities to play. Would totally recommend Laura.

I am so thankful to have found Laura! She looks after my boy one full day a week and I know he is safe hands and having lots of fun. She takes him out a lot too! Thank you L! x
