About Me
Hi i'm Nicola Winter !
I have been working with children throughout my whole career. I provide a warm and welcoming home-from-home environment where children can feel safe, happy and valued. My setting is open-planned creating a nice area for having fun and enjoying learning through play.
I am married to Darren and we have 2 girls. Darcy 18yrs and Freya 15yrs. We live in the Broadwater/Roebuck area of Stevenage (close to A602 & A1M)
I help run a Childminder’s toddler group at a local hall with other Stevenage childminders. This provides the children with additional opportunities to socialise, make friends and experience new activities.
We attend toddler group regularly and also take visits to the Library.
We also have lots of fun at the park, the woods, soft play and the farm.
We have lots of fun at home too with messy play, arts and crafts, sensory activities, imaginative play and outdoor learning. I have a big garden which we use daily and in all weathers.
My Experience
I have worked with children since leaving college where i gained my NNEB qualification.
I have experience across a variety of settings. I worked as a Nanny for 8years, before spending a further 8years working as a Nursery nurse in a school environment.
In 2012, following the birth of my second daughter, I began my journey as a registered childminder.

My Availability
From September 2026, I will have childcare spaces available on Mondays and Thursdays, with the possibility of an additional day on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.

I live in the broadwater area of Stevenage close to the esso garage of the A602.
My Fees
- Childminding from £7.00 per hour
My fees are depending on the hours or childcare that you need.
As everyone's childcare needs are different.

My daughter started going to Nicola’s when she was 2. She was with Nicola for approximately 18 months and in that time she has thrived. She was always happy, and always looked after as if she was part of the family. I got a run down of the day on collection and would get photos of the day’s activities. This chapter has now come to an end and we are grateful for Nicola being such an influential part of it.

Nicola is absolutely fantastic. She has taken care of my little girl since she was 4 months old and in that time she has thrived. Nicola does lots of varied and fun activities with all the children and I get daily photo, verbal and text updates on how the day has been. Nicola has managed daughter's allergy fantastically well and my daughter has never had a reaction under her care. Nicola cares very much for all her children and the parents as well and has been an incredible support to me for the last two years. I recommend her with all my heart.

Nicola is a wonderful childminder who looked after my son for 3 years and is now currently looking after my daughter. I feel very fortunate to have found such a dedicated, professional, highly skilled childminder.
Nicola offers a home from home environment providing an array of toys to support and aid development. The days are filled with fun activities and often follow a theme. We receive beautiful pictures and videos and texts each day to show what fun they have been having.
They love brining home crafts they have made and pictures they have painted and eating the yummy treats they have baked during the day. We have loved receiving beautiful Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day cards and homemade gifts. Nicola really goes above and beyond her role.
Fun days out are also had with trips to the lakes to feed the ducks, a play in the park, soft play dates and visits to the farm. Nicola also takes the children to a toddler group once a week which she helps run. The children also get a chance to socialise and mix with other children from other childminder groups that Nicola is friends with.
My son and daughter have always been extremely happy at Nicola’s and have always looked forward to going. Her two daughters are wonderful girls and my two have a lovely relationship with them.
We could not have asked for a better childminder than Nicola and have great peace of mind knowing our child is in the best care. I would highly recommend Nicola as an excellent childcare provider, she is amazing!

Nicola is a wonderful childminder and we feel like we absolutely struck gold with finding her!
We began looking for childcare in 2016 after having our little girl and decided on looking for a childminder so that our children could have that "home from home" experience whilst we were at work. We found Nicola on childcare.co.uk and after sending a few messages we arranged a meeting. I instantly felt comfortable in her company and she was so calm and loving towards our little girl. She has seen our little girl through from being 9 months old to starting school and still has our little boy four days per week.
Her setting is wonderful and I know both my children see it as a second home. They love going to Nicola and being in her care. She has helped us massively as parents during every little stage of both our children's development from learning to talk, weaning, potty training, learning to walk and learning to socialise with other children. She always offers advice and is so knowledgeable with young children and babies.
Her family are wonderful and her girls have developed such a loving relationship with our children. It's like them having older siblings and being a part of another family.
I am always kept up to date with what's happening during the day with texts and a daily run down, as well as gorgeous photo collages and videos of what the children have been up to. They children always come home with arts and crafts or baking that they have been busy making throughout the day, and their play is always centred around a topic or theme which is lovely. We love our hand made Christmas cards, Easter cakes and Mothers'/Fathers' day cards. We even had a hand made "Stick Man" come home with us the other day after Nicola had read the story with our little one. It's so reassuring to know they are busy and happy throughout the day with someone who clearly loves their job and looking after children.
Pre Covid, Nicola would make sure the days were jam packed with park and farm visits, meeting with other child minders so that the children could socialise and toddler groups. During the pandemic, their days are still full of fun and exciting activities, but just within guidelines and rules.
I know my children are with a loving, caring and trusting person when they are with Nicola and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for childcare for their child. She's just wonderful!
