My Experience

I have a lot of experience with children. I have been babysitting since the age of 14 initially for neighbours but through word of mouth and some local advertising I began working for a wider circle of families and began regularly nannying in school holidays.
I have a younger brother who I helped look after when he was younger. I have also spent a two weeks working in a school in the special needs department for work experience. I also spent every Wednesday for 6 months helping children from a local school learn how to swim.
I used to volunteer at my local hospital (Salisbury) and work there twice a week in the Children's ward. I would read to the children, hand out lunches and
I worked in a primary school as a nursery assistant. I worked with a range of children including children with special needs such as autism, dyslexia and hearing impairments and children with a wide variety of different social backgrounds. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and have helped with arts and crafts, organising activities, numeracy and literacy skills and school productions. I have also spent a week working with the older year 6 children helping mainly with their homework and answering any questions during lessons.

I have been a full time nanny for four children aged 9-14 in Greenwich, London. My duties included cooking, cleaning school drop off and pick up, laundry and babysitting/entertaining the children.

I was nominated to be a school prefect, where my duties included mentoring the younger pupils at school, helping them with their homework, listening to any problems or questions as well as helping staff organise welcome events for new pupils. I was also chosen to be part of the school team that went to work in an orphanage in Romania, organising an activity week for children and young adults aged 1-28. Our team ran several events during the year to raise funds for the orphanage, including charity auction, cake sales and car washes.

I worked at The House Of Fraser in Bournemouth on the fragrance counter for four months as a Christmas temp. I was the only Christmas temp to be offered a permanent part-time position. My duties included serving the customer, putting sales and returns through the tills, opening and cashing the tills up, and answering any questions or queries. I worked within the beauty floor and found working as part of a team very enjoyable as we helped each other as required. I was put in charge of the counter and the other temporary staff on a Sunday.

I worked at The Prince Leopold Inn as a waitress during Easter and summer holidays as required. My duties included taking customers food orders and bringing their food/drink/bill. Liaising with the kitchen staff over food orders, keeping customers informed of any necessary changes to their order and checking customer satisfaction during the meal and dealing with any queries or complaints. I also cleared and re-laid tables.

While at school I participated in many team sports and represented my school in: hockey, tennis, swimming and netball. I am a very creative person and love all arts and crafts. I have completed an art foundation course in June 2016 at Arts University Bournemouth. I was on a degree course at the university this year (September 2016) but realised I the course was not for me and I want to be doing a degree which will help others and as I love children and will be doing a Primary education degree in late September 2017.
