About Me

Part-Time SEND Nanny / Support Worker Wanted

We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable person to support our bright, curious and engaging autistic 7-year-old son for a number of hours each week.

Our son has an autism profile with significant demand-avoidant traits (often described as a PDA profile). He is highly intelligent, asks thoughtful questions, notices details that others miss, and loves understanding how things work. He responds best to low-demand, flexible approaches and adults who can build trust through shared interests, humour, curiosity and genuine connection.

This is not a traditional nanny role. Our son learns through his interests and responds best to adults who are calm, adaptable and willing to follow his lead.

His main interests include:
• Roadworks and construction
• Drains, plumbing and water systems
• Trains and transport
• Maps and infrastructure
• Engineering and how things work
• Outdoor exploration and practical activities

The role may involve accompanying him on outings, supporting interest-led learning, helping him access the community, and building confidence and independence through activities he enjoys.

We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience supporting autistic children or young people
• Understands PDA-style support approaches or is willing to learn
• Is patient, calm and adaptable
• Is comfortable working in a child-led way
• Enjoys spending time outdoors
• Has a driving licence and access to a vehicle
• Holds an Enhanced DBS certificate or is willing to obtain one

Experience in SEND, education, support work, youth work, outdoor learning, engineering, construction, plumbing, transport or similar practical fields would be welcomed.

The most important quality is the ability to build a trusting relationship and support our son in a way that respects his individual needs, interests and pace of development.

Direct Payment funding application in progress. Self-employed applicants welcome.

Angie is a wonderful lady and an excellent childminder. My son has been with her for 9 months and has thrived in her care. He looks forward to going everytime and comes home happy and exhausted. Shes encourages healthy eating and the kids are always busy having fun. She is always intrested and and keeps the kids engaged and let's you know straight away of any concerns re development etc. In short shes brilliant and am sad to be leaving her services.
