My Summary
Free Flow Setting For The Creative Little Minds
About Me
My name is Abaigeal, and I am an OFSTED-registered childminder based in Hampton Gardens. I am 31 years old and have been running my childminding setting, Little Monkeys Childminding, with pride and passion for the past seven years.
I offer childcare between 8:00am and 6:00pm, with the flexibility of early drop-offs, late pick-ups, and overnight care where needed. I have a dedicated children’s bedroom, complete with a toddler bed, and I am always happy to adapt routines and spaces to meet each child’s individual needs.
I work alongside four wonderful assistants, three of whom are parents themselves. Two hold a Level 3 childcare qualification, and the others are currently working towards their Level 2 or 3. Together, we provide a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.
I have worked in childcare for 13 years, gaining my BTEC at PRC and Degree at the University of Northampton. Before childminding, I worked in a nursery toddler room and was promoted to Room Leader due to my dedication, initiative, and passion for early years. Childminding has allowed me to bring that passion home and build a close-knit, family-centred setting.
Building strong relationships with both children and families is at the heart of what I do. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing children run in happily each morning, excited to see each other and explore.
We follow a free-flow approach, allowing children to choose their activities and move at their own pace, encouraging independence, creativity, and ownership of their learning. We provide a wide range of toys, resources, and experiences, and we follow the children’s interests wherever they lead—whether that’s imaginative play at home or extending learning out into the real world, like visiting the train station after a morning of train role-play.
Creativity and exploration are central to our practice. We offer plenty of messy play, sensory opportunities, and hands-on experiences that some children may not have the chance to enjoy elsewhere. Outdoor play is part of our daily routine, whatever the weather, supporting children’s physical development and love for nature.
We also have a much-loved family dog, Maisie, who is incredibly gentle with the children. She joins us on walks and helps the children learn important skills such as confidence, responsibility, and kindness towards animals.
Overall, my goal is to provide a welcoming, nurturing, and enriching environment where children can grow, explore, and thrive—while feeling very much at home.
My Experience
During my training for my Level 6 childcare qualification, I worked across a variety of early years settings, gaining valuable hands-on experience with different age groups. I spent nine months working full-time in both the 1–2-year-old room and the preschool room, which helped me build a strong understanding of developmental stages and the importance of tailored learning.
I later moved to another nursery, where I worked with the 2–3 age group and progressed to the position of Room Leader. This role strengthened my leadership skills, deepened my knowledge of early childhood development, and further reinforced my passion for supporting young children as they grow.
In 2018, I opened my childminding business from my parents’ home, before moving it into my own home at the end of 2020. Since then, the setting has grown into the wonderful environment it is today, complete with a dedicated cabin, playroom, and art room. This journey has allowed me to create a warm, engaging, and well-equipped space where children can learn, explore, and thrive.
