My name is Abaigeal, I am an OFSTED Registered childminder, I am 26 and I live in Hampton Vale.
I have been childminding for two years now and love every minute of it! Getting to know the children and having a close relationship with their families is very important. Seeing the children excited to
come see each other in the morning is priceless. We are work on being a free-flow setting, so the children decide what they want to do and play with rather than set activities that have to be done each day. A range of toys and activities are provided and we jump from activity to activity in the children’s own time. To encourage them to have ownership in their learning.
A little about my route into childminding, I have been working in childcare for 8 years while studying for my BTEC and my Degree, and when I went to the University of Northampton. I have previously worked in a nursery within the toddler room, I was soon promoted to Room Leader; this was because of hard work and determination which I portrayed in my role. I enjoy spending time with children, listening to the interesting things that they come out with, I love seeing a child achieve something that they have been working for so long to achieve. I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to work from home and take my passion to another level and start my own childcare business.
I want children to have the freedom to choose what they want to do and to be able to take activities further into the everyday world, for example, if a child role plays with the trains to then be able to take them to the train station and explore the real world. I love the look on a child's face of amazement for seeing something new.
I want to promote creativity and allow children to express themselves and explore different textures and explore their creativity and allow them to get messy, where some children are unable to at home. I also want to promote a healthy lifestyle by providing outdoor play every day rain or shine to again allow the children to use their energy up and explore the outdoors.
I have worked in nurseries for two years, one working with the 1-2 years age range and in the preschool room. I was there for 9 months and then had the opportunity to work in another nursery as a floater and work with all the age ranges, and then moved into the toddler room and worked up to acting room leader.
