Hi Parents! My name is Marie, a Filipina but living in London for 12 years now. I have been working as a nanny for 8 years in total though I am a nurse by profession. I currently have a 20 month old son who is the love of my life. Enjoyed every second of looking after him solely and now that he is about to start going to nursery full time, I decided to go back to do the job I love which is nannying.
I love looking after children as that is my joy is. I love to be a part of their lives as they grow up. I am very compassionate about them. I also want to impart to them the good character my parents taught me but at the same time learn more and more about them.
My Experience
A Taiwanese Mum hired me as a maternity nurse initially for a month but then as soon as her son was born she offered me the job as a nanny which I happily accepted. So I was looking after the boy since he was a newborn until he was 8 years old.
My duties includes:
- preparing bottles for feeding and cleaning them
- changing nappies
- bathing the baby
- assisting the mother in breastfeeding
- guiding and supporting the mother transitioning the baby from breast to bottles
- washing bed linens and clothes for the baby
- weaning the baby
- preparing meals from puree to mash
- planning, booking and taking the child to playgroups and baby classes
- shopping for the needs of the child that hasn't been done or mislooked by the parents
- undertaking appropriate activities that is suitable for the baby's age
- engaging the child in activities that will help him develop his motor and cognitive skills (hand gestures, puzzles, alphabet, shapes, colours and etc.)
- sleep training
- reading books to the child
- reinforcing appropriate discipline to the child (under parents' consent)
- tidying the child's bedroom
- disinfecting toys
- implementing daily routines
- running errands (that is needed by the child)
I love reading books and playing piano. I have imparted some of my skills to the little boy which encouraged his Mum to enrol to a proper piano lessons.
Unfortunately the mother decided to go back to Taiwan las June 2019 for good. It was a heartbreaking moment. But I am happy to say that until now we have maintained our communications and sometimes visit them in Taiwan.
I decided to look for another job and I was accepted by an Australian-English family who has a lovely and bubbly 3 years old girl.
My duties includes:
- taking her to nursery
- preparing and giving her meals and snacks
- giving her bath
- taking her to activities appropriate for her age (farms, museums, music classes, toddler classes, toy libraries)
- planning and booking her playdates
- washing her bed linens and clothes
- taking her to her grandparents' house twice in a month
- reading books to her
I enjoyed looking after and the reason why I left the job is because she went full time in nursery and I have to prepare myself as I am about to give bitrth in February 2020.
My Qualifications
I am a registered nurse in the Philippines and worked as a Nurse for 8 years.
Here in London I had my NVQ Qualification for 3 years.
