Our Summary
About Us
Derby Forest School
Derby Forest School provides forest school experiences for children of all ages in and around Derby. Whistlewood Forest School includes a Nature Nursery and Holiday club at Whistlewood Common between Melbourne and Ticknall. Nursery sessions are aimed at children aged 2 and a half upwards and run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in term time with children having priority access to our holiday club which runs on the same days in school holidays. Based on the Forest School approach we use the beautiful outdoor environment along with real life experiences to provide a range of varied opportunities to support children's development. We believe that the entire Early Years curriculum can be covered in a way that is meaningful to children and uses their innate curiosity to put them at the centre of their own learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to supplement the Early years education they receive in a traditional nursery with something that is different and exciting. My child has been looked after by Roz for the past 7 months and I am so pleased with how she has settled in. My daughter has a life threatening medical condition and I was very wary of who I asked to look after her. I know now that I made the right decision and I would highly recommend Roz and her team, she always has the child's best interest at heart and continues with any plan that I have put in place with my child at home e.g eating habits, potty training and reward charts etc.
Roz is understanding and is approachable, she cares for the children like her own and is calm and patient with them. I love that she is able take the children out in the local area to places like Forrest school and soft play trips as this also gives my child the interaction needed for her development. Roz has a lovely house and garden so when the weather is kind she is able to do lots of activities with them in and outdoors, including wet play, sand, pasta, rice, den building, crafts and looking at nature as well as lots of toys too.
Roz uses a parent portal called Tapestry so any photos and updates from my child gets uploaded so that I can see the progress. This is an amazing tool as I get to see how happy and comfortable she feels in a different setting.
I am so impressed with how my child has progressed since being looked after by Roz, her speech is amazing and I can't thank Roz enough, she follows the EYFS framework by considering the individual needs of the children in her care, understanding their starting points, their strengths and their interests, and incorporating these into aspects of their learning and taking into account all their strengths and areas for development.
My child eats really well whilst at the childminders, Roz offers a well balance diet to all the children and caters for allergies too. Roz has a small team of other ofsted registered childminders that work with her in her home, this is great for the children.
My child enjoys her time there and with Roz's support is learning to play alongside others in a safe and nurturing environment. I feel totally relaxed when I leave my child with Roz and I would highly recommend her services.

Roz was a real find we only needed her for a couple of days but she was very welcoming and had a flexible approach to childcare. Even picked her up from me one day which was much appreciated. Whilst there she enjoyed outdoor play in the play house, painting water and sand play, singing and reading. Our little one felt confident to by herself around Roz which was great.
