My Summary

My Experience

My first experience working with children was when I was in school, around the age of 15, when we had the option to volunteer in the local primary school and run different activities with them. Additionally, I have run various summer camps, both residential and day camps, with ages ranging from 4 to 16. This involved planning programs/activities and running them as well as putting the children to bed - which wasn’t always an easy task! Sometimes on these camps, there were some more challenging children to look after but it was always so rewarding.

Other than the camps just mentioned I have been babysitting for different families for many years. One family, I used to look after had 7 children, age ranging from 6 months - 13 years old. For this job, I had generally made them all dinner, bath the little ones, and put them all to bed at staggered times. Another job I did was helping a mother with her newborn baby girl and 3-year-old boy, this involved helping them at dinner time, bath time, and bedtime so that one of us could be with each child. It was really lovely working with both ages! These are just a few of the times I have babysat but I have looked after many families!

I was also a nanny for a period of time, this job was looking after a little boy, George, who was 6/7 months when I started. It was very hands-on as he was a very restless baby and had some stomach problems so I would often keep him entertained with various activities, walks in the park, and playing with different toys. This job also involved giving him milk/feeding him, putting him to bed for naps as well as helping his mum take him to doctor's appointments. I got on so well with him and the family that they asked me to go on holiday with them so I could look after him rather than finding another nanny. A few months after leaving this job his mum had another baby, so I came back here and there to help look after the newborn baby and George.

Currently, I spend a lot of time with my friends' young children who are both 2 years old. I particularly help with one of them, where I cook dinner for him (which he loves, apparently he doesn't eat all his mum's foo!) As well as this I sometimes do bathtime and bedtime, he can be quite hyper so I try and keep it relaxed and quiet and then tell a nice story before bed.

I have also just started volunteering at The Bank Youth Project in Ashburton, which is an afterschool club for children.

My Qualifications

I am currently in the process of getting of a DBS as my last one has expired, qualified youth leader.

My Availability

At the moment I am generally fairly free, I work one or two days a week Odds and Suds in Ashburton but I'm looking for something for the rest of the week.

• Babysitting from £16.00 per hour
