Welcome to North Star Childminder Services, a warm, friendly and nurturing childcare setting based in the Prettygate area of Colchester.
I am a qualified, Ofsted-registered childminder with extensive experience caring for children from newborn age onwards. I live with my husband and our three children, and I understand how important it is for parents to find childcare where their little ones feel safe, happy, valued and at home.
At North Star, my priority is to provide high-quality childcare in a loving, safe and stimulating home-from-home environment. Every child is treated as an individual, with their needs, interests and development supported through play, learning experiences and plenty of encouragement.
I have a strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and use this to support children's learning and development. I also hold qualifications in Autism Awareness and Special Educational Needs (SEN). My previous experience in hospitality and as a support worker has helped me develop strong skills in creating a welcoming, caring and supportive environment for children and their families.
Breakfast & After-School Care
I offer flexible wraparound childcare to support busy and working families:
Breakfast Club: 7:00am – 9:00am
After-School Club: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
School drop-off and collection are available for:
• St Thomas More's Catholic Primary School
• Prettygate Infant & Junior Schools – subject to availability
Children are provided with opportunities to relax, play and enjoy age-appropriate activities before and after school.
Activities & Outings
We are fortunate to be located close to a lovely community park and community garden, giving children plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor play and explore their surroundings.
Children can also enjoy a variety of activities and outings, including arts and crafts, sensory play, reading, imaginative play, outdoor activities, library visits, farm trips and visits to the zoo.
At North Star Childminder Services, childcare is about much more than simply looking after children. My aim is to create a place where children can feel safe, build confidence, develop friendships, learn through play and feel part of our extended family.
Breakfast and after-school spaces are currently available.

My Experience
Coming from a background as a support worker for years , I have an excellent understanding of looking after someone's child and making the children feel at home, to me they are part of my family.
Morning breakfast club and after school club serving Thomas Mores Catholic school and Pretty gate Primary Primary school.
Monday - Friday breakfast and after school club 6:30am- 9:00am and 3:00pm - 6pm.

At North Star Childminder Services, we understand that every family’s childcare needs are different. That’s why we offer flexible wraparound care, with early morning opening and care available until 6:00pm.

I am extremely happy with the care my Son receives from Milly. she has created a safe, and welcoming environment where he feels truly happy. Milly is reliable and always keeps us informed about his day and activities. He is always well fed and clearly enjoys her food 😃which gives us even more reassurance throughout the day. Most importantly, we have complete peace of mind knowing he is in such capable and caring hands. It’s obvious how much Milly truly cares about the children she looks after, and we feel very lucky to have found her. We would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a trustworthy and nurturing childminder

Our little girl started with Milly at 15 months old after her nursery unexpectedly closed — and what a blessing in disguise it turned out to be. From day one, she’s been welcomed into such a loving, homely environment and truly feels like part of the family. 💛

I highly recommend North Star Childminder! I was nervous about leaving my 9 month old when returning to work, but Milly put me completely at ease and my son absolutely adores his time with her, her team and all the friends he has made there. The communication is brilliant and Milly goes above and beyond to share what the children have been learning and exploring though their play. 6 months later my son is absolutely flourishing. He is so happy when we arrive in the morning and it is clear he has a very special bond with Milly. She is absolutely wonderful and we are so grateful to have found such kind, caring, and welcoming childcare.

We are parents to a 3 and 5 year old. From aged 1 our little boy had been in nursery but it wasn't a great experience for him. Since he joined Milly's he has flourished. Milly has created a wonderful setting for her children and it's clear to see how much time and care she invests into them by how happy they are with her and how much they learn and experience.
Not only is my son happy, I am too as Milly supports me with great communication and guidance as a parent when I have to spend time away with work.
We're so happy to have Milly and North Star look after our family!

Milly and her family recently took on Our little boy after his old childminder didn’t work out. We have been so happy with Milly she has offered so many opportunities for our little boy that he always comes running home to tell us about. These experiences havent gone unnoticed and are appreciated. He talks about all his friends and always comes home clean and happy. Couldn’t ask for anything more in a childminder :)

My daughter has been going to North Star for almost a year now and she is so happy . Milly is excellent with my girl and I never worried when am away to work or studying. Milly has exceeded my expectations and I am eternally grateful for that.

My child joined North Star Childminder about four months ago and I can say it has been a great and wonderful experience for my son. Milly has been very kind, caring and considerate to me and my son. She always try her best to make pick up and drop off easy for us.
My son has improved greatly in his interaction with peers and his siblings since he started with Milly and he is always looking forward to being with her everyday. As for me, knowing that my son is with Milly keeps my mind at rest at work and helps me to focus more on my daily job as I know he is in good hands.
Milly is very kind, compassionate, considerate and friendly. Her childminding service is second to none and I will recommend her to everyone looking for a great and wonderful childminding service. She is 10/10!!!.

My daughter has been with North Star Childminder for 4 months and it was been a wonderful experience! As a first time mum, Milly has provided a lot of reassurance, kindness and care towards myself and my daughter. I have seen a massive growth in her since starting with Milly and she is always happy and full of life at the end of the day. I don’t have to worry as I know she’s in good hands! Milly is kind, approachable and flexible when I’ve needed extra care and help with pick up and drop off. North Star provides excellent care and I can’t recommend enough. Thank you for all you Do!

Millie provides outstanding childcare, in fact our son is looked after like he’s one of the family. Millie focuses on our son’s development with his learning, manners and social skills which are all key for us. When we pick him up he always seems happy and content which is amazing and gives us the confidence he thoroughly enjoys his time with Millie. We also like the fact there is flexibility with the ability to add extra hours if needed and we’ve even sent our other young son to Millie when we’ve had emergency child care challenges. We cannot recommend North Star child care enough 10/10.
