About Me

Hi! My name is Ellen, I am a 23 year old who has been nannying for a year now.
In my free time I love to cook, bake and try new dishes! I am passionate about good food, and have an excellent understanding of how to maintain a healthy, balanced diet. I enjoy cooking for the people that I live with, and am always striving to improve the quality of the food that I prepare. As a coeliac, a vegetarian, and someone who lives with a vegan (as well as through plenty of catering industry experience) I am incredibly well versed in allergens, dietary requirements and how to prevent cross contamination. This all also means that I can confidently cook a variety of exciting dishes to cater to these needs.
Prior to the pandemic, I enjoyed travelling, both independently and with friends, however this has been put somewhat on hold!
I am an avid horse rider, but I also enjoy gardening, netball, painting and rock climbing.
I hold a valid UK driving licence and own my own car. (Since 2017)
I hold a clear and valid DBS check and I would be very willing to undertake first aid training upon request.
I have proved myself to be reliable and conscientious with excellent time keeping skills and I consider myself to be very hard working. I am reliable, responsible, observant and dedicated, and I genuinely enjoy working. I am always prepared to be flexible about roles carried out and in my availability for work.

My Experience

Please feel free to contact me for my full CV!

I am currently a nanny to three fantastic children aged 4,8 and 11, however this is only part time, so I still have plenty of availability. I take the children to and from school, help with their homework and play with them both before and after school, as well as some babysitting when required.

I am also a nanny to a wonderful 2 year old girl, who I am currently also teaching to speak English!

I have previously been a nanny in a Montessori household, and found that I really enjoyed it and was very interested to learn more about Montessori. This household was also raising their 16 month old son to be multilingual, and we had a lot of fun using a variety of methods to help him to learn the different languages.

I have plenty of babysitting experience. I gained this whilst babysitting for a lovely family for a number of years. They had two boys aged 2 and 4 when I began. I would put the children to bed following an evening of play and read them bedtime stories. When he was old enough, I enjoyed helping the older child with his reading.

For four years, I was the supervisor/ carer of young volunteers at my local riding school. Here I taught, oversaw and helped to organise the children who volunteered there, whilst always ensuring their health and welfare.

In 2019 and again in 2022, I worked at a summer camp in America. This was an incredible experience and I loved every second. It instilled in me what I know will be a lifelong passion for childcare and helping children grow to become their happiest, best selves. At camp, I was a horse riding instructor, and planned and taught up to six 1:1 lessons a day for children of different ages (anywhere between 3 and 16) and greatly varying abilities. I specialised in teaching the children who had never ridden before and the children who were especially nervous around the horses, and I took great pride in helping them find their feet and build their confidence. I partook in evening activities with the children too; this could be anything from swimming and pool parties to sport matches, to quieter, more mindful activities such as arts and crafts and pottery or reading. I lived in a cabin of 16 children (Aged 11-14) and two- three other adult counsellors, so the job was very full on, and I was constantly responsible the health and welfare of a large number of children. I was working nearly 24 hours a day, and even during my hour off, I was on call in case of an emergency, or even just if a child wanted to talk to me. I constantly had to consider how I was presenting myself: as a role model for the children, it is imperative that you behave accordingly, and set the best possible example for them to follow. As a counsellor, it is your job to help the children to have fun, but also to always ensure their safety. I was trained to always risk assess before any activity and to always keep in mind the motto “safety before fun”. Of course, the children would not know this, they were just focused on enjoying themselves! Some of the children brought their schoolwork to camp with them and I often helped them with this. I also had to plan and teach fun lessons for the children in my activity area, this could be anything from painting the horses to teaching the children the basics of horse care and management.

When we first met Ellen, we had a shy little pandemic baby who wouldn't communicate much with people outside home since English is not our primary language.

Although she's with us only for a few hours a week, Ellen made an effort to establish communication, even trying to remember the words from our language. Now, we have a toddler who is confident around everyone, knows & speaks quite a few English words and even made a couple of complete sentences!
Ellen is very sensitive & observant so there's lots of independent play when needed along with activities/doing stuff together.

She's always trying to accommodate our needs and happy to take my child out to the toddler group, library, parks, etc. She is flexible, punctual, friendly and reliable to work with.
And my daughter is always happy to see her. A win-win really!
