My Summary

My Experience

Although I do not drive, I am confident around the city on public transport and have a pedal bike (I am currently learning to drive!). I am first aid qualified. I have managed a bar for two years in south Birmingham and have really valued making connections with the community.

I worked as a support worker with my clients, helping them live happily and independently as young adults, including cooking and cleaning, helping with other household tasks such as DIY and supporting with admin tasks. I was passionate about helping my clients engage with the community: going for days out together, or attending clubs/groups together.

I also worked as a nanny for two girls for three years, beginning when they were aged 6 and 9, picking them up from school, ensuring that after school was time where they could have fun, feel nurtured and safe. I really enjoyed chatting and playing with the girls, and building a connection with them.

I spent time volunteering at an assisted living facility in my teen years and really enjoyed offering companionship as well as helping with food preparation and keeping residents’ spaces clean and tidy. Around the same time, I offered companionship for a local elderly gentleman for around a year and relished time visiting him at home and talking about all his life experiences. I spent time as a companion with another local lady who had suffered from a stroke: I helped out by walking her dogs and we spent time together bird watching and gardening. I have volunteered with Mindsong, a charity who offers music therapy for people with dementia and their carers. I visited care homes for music sessions where we would sing familiar songs and it was amazing to be part of. I have also taken part in music events to raise money for Mindsong.

In my time working on a COVID testing site in 2021, I gained a great sense of fulfilment being able to support and comfort people in a vulnerable situation, ensuring they felt comfortable, safe and had a clear understanding of the process. This required excellent interpersonal skills, with a wide range of ages and included communicating with people who spoke limited English.

My time working in hospitality means I have experience remaining calm, positive and enthusiastic under pressure and continuing to make decisions thoughtfully, maintaining strong communication throughout. When I started working in my compassionate roles I really enjoyed putting these skills to a more fulfilling role; forming meaningful relationships and truly making a difference.

GCSE, June 2016 - Mathematics, English and Science (AAB) and 8 additional GCSEs A*-B
