Part-time SEN Nanny needed for before/after school exp with ADHD & PDA approaches
About Me
Hi there! We are a busy, loving family based in Mid-Sussex looking for a supportive, proactive, and neuro-affirming nanny or specialist childcare assistant to join our team from August.
I am a single professional parent with two energetic, bright children. My 8-year-old son has ADHD and suspected ASD with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile. My 5-year-old daughter also has suspected ADHD.
Because traditional behavioural techniques or rigid boundaries do not work in our home (and actively cause dysregulation), we run a low-demand, highly collaborative household. Our ideal candidate is someone who naturally uses indirect language, humour, and connection over compliance to build trust and help the children navigate their afternoons.
My Requirements
The Schedule & Start Date:
Start Date: August 2026.
Hours: 3 days per week (Tue-Thur), covering school pickup (3:15 PM) through to bedtime routine (approx. 7:15 PM) — roughly 12 hours per week. There may also be occasional opportunities for later evenings or weekend hours by mutual agreement. For someone looking for more hours, I'd also consider having someone up to 25 hours a week to include after school on Mon/Fri and before school Tue-Thur.
Main Duties:
- Safe school pickup and bringing the children home.
- Navigating the 'after-school transition' with patience (allowing space for sensory decompression).
- Preparing simple, high-protein, nutrient-dense evening meals and snacks.
- Guiding them through a low-demand, calming bedtime routine.
Essential Requirements:
- Genuine SEN Experience: Deep understanding of ADHD and, ideally, direct experience with or an understanding of a PDA profile (low-demand parenting, offering choices, collaborative problem-solving).
- Ofsted Registration: Because we utilise the government Tax-Free Childcare scheme, you must either be Ofsted Registered or completely willing to register before starting (we are happy to cover the registration costs for the right person).
- Driver: A clean driving license and your own car are highly preferred for school pickups.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the update service and excellent checkable references are essential.
Pay Rate:
£18 – £25 per hour gross (negotiable based on specific SEN qualifications, psychology/therapy backgrounds, or specialist TA experience)
