About Me
Hi, I'm Alex and I am a 36 year-old English woman who has recently moved to Edinburgh. I am looking for child care opportunities here as I love spending time with children and feel it would be a fun way to capitalise on my skills and supplement my income. I am a professional; an excellent time-keeper, reliable, organised and well-presented. I am calm and composed around children and seek to build trust with them by listening to them attentively and responding to their needs promptly. I like to take the lead from them, playing games, singing or dancing to music, whilst also finding my own ways to engage them with crafts, baking and art. I like a mix of fun and calmer activities, such as reading, as I understand how to find the balance so that children do not become over-stimulated. I love all animals and am confident around all breeds of dogs (and cats).
My Experience
I was 10 when my brother was born and very hands-on with his upbringing, changing nappies, taking care of bath-time, feeding and putting him to bed. I was an au pair for 6 months in Corsica at the age of 21. In London, I spent 3 years working with a family of 5 children (aged 3 - 9), supporting them with their homework. I have been working as a full-time teacher for 11 years now. I worked as a high school languages teacher for 6 years where I was second in department and Head of French. I tutored English as a foreign language to children aged 3 - 12 in Russia for one year. I have recently returned from Thailand where I was a primary teacher. I also ran the school's summer programme which involved lots of crafts, art, sport and baking. I am a competent cook and happy to prepare meals for the children.
