About Me

My name is Laura and I am 42 years old. I live by the sea in Worthing with my partner and our daughter. I am an intelligent, creative person with an English Language and Literature BA from Oxford University. I am friendly, patient and passionate about teaching English, especially the literature side of things. I love reading and helping others to unlock the nuances of texts, and to improve their capacity to express themselves through words. I am sensitive to the needs of others and strive to tailor sessions to suit the needs of the tutee. My approach to teaching is relaxed and enthusiastic, with the aim to build confidence as well as increase knowledge and understanding.

My Experience

I have been a private tutor for 15 years now, helping students (ranging from Year 7 to university level) with all aspects of their English Literature and Language courses - including in-depth analysis of texts, improving coursework, exam preparation and revision skills. I have also been employed in schools in support roles, working closely with targeted students on a one-to-one or small group basis, developing and delivering innovative study sessions designed to overcome barriers to learning and assist underachievers in fulfilling their potential.

My Qualifications

I have 4 A levels at A grade (English Literature, History, Art and History of Art) and I have a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Somerville College, Oxford. I have an up-to-date DBS check.
