The Role

We are looking for a warm and open-minded childcare practitioner, nanny, or babysitter to provide regular 1:1 respite care for our imaginative 4-year-old son, Marcus.

Our primary goal is to find a trusted, engaging person who can jump into his world, bring genuine fun and playfulness to his space, and give our family a much-needed break. We are looking for someone who excels at creative, child-led play and keeping the environment completely stress-free.

Hours:
Weekday afternoons would be great i.e. 12-4pm. However we are flexible on exact days and times.
About Our Son & The Low-Demand Approach
Marcus is a bright, curious, and deeply imaginative little boy who has a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) autism profile. He thrives on connection, silliness, and shared fun, but traditional childcare methods like directing him, giving instructions, asking lots of questions, or enforcing strict routines cause him significant stress.
Because of this, we use a high-enthusiasm, zero-demand approach. This means:
Enthusiastic Co-Presence & Play: Marcus loves adults who bring warmth, humor, and high energy to whatever activity he’s interested in (building, sensory play, immersive games). The key is simply immersing yourself in the fun alongside him without expecting him to perform, answer direct questions, or follow set rules.
Zero Demands or Expectations: You will never be expected to force him to tidy up, sit at a table, eat, or follow rigid schedules. Your focus is purely on safety, joy, and keeping things low-pressure.
A Gentle, Safe Introduction: To help him build trust, initial sessions will involve hanging out naturally in our home, engaging in fun activities near him, and letting him build a connection with you at his own pace.
What We Are Looking For
Playfulness & Silliness: Someone who naturally loves diving into imaginative, child-led play, getting on the floor, and bringing genuine enthusiasm to the room.
Low Ego & Flexibility: Someone who can bring high energy to a game without feeling the need to control the outcome, direct his play, or enforce traditional rules.
Willingness to Learn: You do not need to be a PDA expert! We are very happy to guide you on how low-demand communication works in practice.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an energetic nanny, student, or childcare worker looking to gain experience in neuroaffirming, child-led care within a supportive home environment.
