About Me
PMLD, severe Cerebral Palsy, Visual Impairment (including CVI) and complex physical or medical needs. I provide 1:1 home-based sensory and learning sessions. My sessions are personalised to each young person, using sensory activities, communication, movement, music and cause-and-effect activities to support engagement, choice and participation. I create sensory-rich, curiosity-led sessions that encourage young people to explore, respond and communicate in their own way.
For home-schooled learners, I can also support learning and work towards specific EHCP or IEP outcomes, with activities carefully structured around individual targets. I create purposeful sensory sessions using the resources and equipment already available to the young person, while also bringing my own specialist resources where appropriate, including BIGmack talking switches, switch adapters and a range of tactile and sensory resources. I help families make better use of what they already have by organising, adapting and rearranging resources to create purposeful learning opportunities.
Each session is shaped around the young person’s interests, abilities, communication and responses, with the aim of making learning meaningful and enjoyable.
My Experience
I have over 10 years of experience supporting children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), severe Cerebral Palsy, complex physical and medical needs, CVI and visual impairments. I worked in a specialist school supporting young people aged 11–19, including 1:1 and 2:1 support.
My experience includes sensory-based learning, Dark Room activities, visual stimulation, Intensive Interaction, TacPac, switch-activated technology, PECS and other forms of non-verbal communication. I have also supported children with PEG feeding, medication, epilepsy, personal care, hoisting and specialist equipment.
I have experience working with families and professionals including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, nurses and teachers. I can adapt activities around the child's abilities, communication, interests and EHCP targets.
My Qualifications
Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care – Children and Young People (CYP). I also hold Paediatric First Aid training and safeguarding training, including Safeguarding Children with Disabilities and Additional Needs. I have additional training and practical experience in medication administration, PEG feeding, epilepsy support, moving and handling, visual impairment and supporting children with complex medical needs.
