Jessica
Childminder in Rochester
My Summary
About Me
Hello, I’m Jessica, the childminder behind Just Play Childminding. I’m a qualified and experienced primary school teacher who has taught in a wide range of settings. My career has taken me from inner-city state schools in London, to private schools in Kent, and internationally where I spent seven years teaching in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how children learn and develop, and the importance of creating nurturing environments where every child can thrive.
After many years in the classroom, I decided to take the exciting step of starting my own childminding business so I could bring together everything I’ve learned throughout my teaching career and apply it to my own practice. Through Just Play Childminding, I aim to create a warm, engaging and stimulating environment where children feel safe, confident and inspired to explore the world around them.
I strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and I love being part of a supportive community where families work together to help children grow and succeed. Being a positive role model and supporting children through their learning journeys is something I feel truly passionate about.
I’m also a mum myself, and becoming a childminder has allowed me to continue caring for my own daughter while doing the job I love. Teaching has always been my passion, and nothing compares to seeing the joy on a child’s face when they learn something new, gain confidence, or overcome a challenge. Supporting those moments of discovery and growth is at the heart of everything I do.
I’m based just a two-minute walk from Rochester train station, making drop-off and pick-up convenient for parents who commute. We’re also lucky to have many wonderful local places to explore nearby, including parks, the riverside, the library and the beautiful cathedral, giving children plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures, learning experiences and community outings.
If you would like to find out more about Just Play Childminding, I would love to hear from you. You’re very welcome to arrange a visit with your child so you can see the setting, ask any questions, and get a feel for the warm and welcoming environment where your child will learn, play and grow.
My Experience
My experience as a primary school teacher has given me a strong understanding of how children learn and develop, particularly in the Early Years. Working in inner London schools allowed me to gain valuable experience with the EYFS framework and develop a deep understanding of how to support young children during these crucial early stages of learning.
During my time teaching in diverse school communities, I worked with many children with a wide range of needs. This has given me strong experience in supporting children with SEND and adapting learning to ensure every child feels included, supported and able to succeed. I understand that every child is unique, and I am passionate about creating environments where children feel confident, valued and able to learn at their own pace.
I also have extensive knowledge of early literacy development, including experience using a variety of phonics schemes. This allows me to support children in building strong foundations in early reading, language and communication through fun, engaging and play-based learning opportunities.
During the seven years I spent teaching in the Middle East, I had the opportunity to work with many bilingual and multilingual children. This experience helped me develop a deeper understanding of how children learn language and how to support communication and confidence in children who may be learning English alongside another language. Living and working abroad also allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture and religion, which I found incredibly enriching and something I truly loved. It strengthened my appreciation for diversity and the importance of creating inclusive environments where every family and child feels respected and valued.
During my time overseas, I also took on leadership roles as a Year Leader and later as Phase Leader for Early Years. These roles allowed me to support and mentor other teachers, help shape the Early Years curriculum, and ensure high-quality learning experiences for young children across the phase. This experience strengthened my leadership, organisation and teamwork skills, and deepened my understanding of how to create effective, nurturing learning environments where children can thrive.
All of these experiences shape my practice at Just Play Childminding, where I aim to create a nurturing environment that supports children’s curiosity, confidence and love of learning from the very beginning.
