Private Tutor in Edinburgh (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
I offer relaxed, supportive tutoring in English, Maths, and beginner piano for younger children. My approach is to make lessons feel enjoyable and engaging, while gently building confidence and skills over time.
For English, I focus on helping children feel more comfortable with reading, writing, and expressing their ideas. I adapt activities to suit the child’s interests, whether that’s reading together, creative writing, or working through school tasks in a way that feels less overwhelming. I aim to make learning feel positive and encouraging, rather than pressured.
For piano, I teach at a beginner level, focusing on building a strong foundation while keeping lessons fun and rewarding. I learned piano myself when I was younger, so I understand how important it is to keep children motivated and not make it feel too technical too quickly. I would introduce basic skills like reading simple music, rhythm, and playing short pieces, while allowing the child to enjoy the process and feel proud of their progress.
I have experience working with children in both educational and care settings, so I’m confident adapting my approach to suit different personalities and needs. My goal is to create a calm, supportive environment where the child feels comfortable, enjoys learning, and gradually builds confidence in both subjects.
My Experience
I have a range of experience working with children in both educational and care settings, which has helped me develop a calm, patient, and supportive approach. I have worked as a nursery and primary school assistant, where I supported children with their learning, helped with reading and writing activities, and worked both one-to-one and in small groups. This gave me a good understanding of how to adapt to different learning styles and keep children engaged in a positive way.
I have also worked as a support worker with children with additional needs, which strengthened my ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and support children who may need a bit more encouragement or structure. Across all of my roles, I have focused on creating a safe and comfortable environment where children feel confident to try, ask questions, and develop at their own pace.
Alongside this, I have experience as a student tutor, supporting others with their learning and explaining concepts in a clear and simple way. I enjoy helping children build confidence and making learning feel more enjoyable rather than stressful.
In terms of piano, I learned when I was younger, which gives me a solid foundation to support beginners. I focus on keeping this fun and accessible, helping children build basic skills while enjoying the process.
