My Summary
About Me
Hello! My name is Shannon and I’m the founder of hill farm tiny home! I’m a qualified secondary English teacher, currently training as a childminder.
I have always been passionate about early years and - after having 2 little ones of my own - decided to make my passion a career. I understand how important flexible childcare is to working families, having tried to juggle it myself for years, so I am open to discussing ad-hoc childcare (including meeting different shift workers’ needs etc).
In my setting, I spend time teaching tolerance, respect and kindness: foundations of healthy emotional connections later in life. It is fundamental that children are nurtured, they themselves feel respected and they are given the confidence to try things even if they fail. My mantra is ‘try and try again’ - resilience is a key (sometimes forgotten) skill for our little ones to learn.
We follow the EYFS, observing children throughout the day and giving parents updates via the tiney app.
I am outdoors with the children every day, whether that is for an adventure at Black Park or forest school, the farm or a nature trail. I have my own little vegetable patch and adore gardening, so your little ones will be green-thumbs before you know it!
Our outings also include trips to the local greengrocer to purchase fresh produce for cookery as a group, as well as trips to local attractions such as the Open Air Museum and places of worship.
Inside the home, we spend a lot of time reading, as this is the most impactful way to support language development in the early years. Children are encouraged to become involved in stories and play parts, sing songs and bring characters to life.
We also have lots of time for messy play and crafts, mark making and building with blocks/magna tiles/loose parts. We participate in mindfulness and yoga, as well as cookery and baking.
Finally, I am also available for 11+ tutoring, GCSE tutoring and other group support (please contact me to discuss details).
