My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Deb. I’m married to Rich and have two wonderful children of my own (Jack, 23 and Kayleigh, 20). Before I went into the care sector over 16 years ago, I was a full-time mum for 7 years - so I truly appreciate how hard it is to juggle everything and being planning for every possible eventuality whilst still getting the normal day to day tasks done! “Mum guilt” is real!!
In my spare time, I love listening to music and audio books, cooking for family and friends and travelling around the world anywhere from Europe to Asia, Australia and America. I am a member of a large and vibrant local church and love to give back by hosting on the guest services team on Sunday mornings, supporting the young adults social group fortnightly and leading a small connect group fortnightly. I also co-run a specialist bereavement support group with my parents monthly.
I understand that choosing someone to care for your child is one of the biggest decisions you'll make. My aim is to provide a safe, nurturing, reliable, and engaging environment where children feel valued, encouraged, and able to thrive. Whether you need regular childcare, occasional support, help with school runs, or simply an extra pair of trusted hands, I tailor my care to your family's individual needs.
I believe every child deserves kindness, patience, consistency, and the opportunity to learn through play, exploration, and positive relationships. I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading stories, getting creative with arts and crafts, baking, messy play, educational activities, and helping children build confidence and independence in a fun and supportive way.
As a qualified nurse, I also bring extensive knowledge of child development, safeguarding, first aid, and supporting children's physical and emotional well being. My approach is calm, compassionate, and centred around building trusting relationships with both children and parents.
I look forward to getting to know your family and providing the high-quality, dependable care your child deserves.
My Experience
I have over 23 years of experience caring for children and over 16 years’ professional experience supporting children, adults and their families across a wide range of settings including hospitals, home, residential care homes and nursing homes.
My background includes working as a community domiciliary carer before going to the University of Birmingham to complete my nursing degree. As a nurse, I worked in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital caring for critically ill children on the highest level of life support. I then went to Birmingham City University to complete my Postgraduate Diploma in Health Visiting. I worked as a Health Visitor in both inner city Birmingham and Royal Leamington Spa. I supported mums from pregnancy, through to children starting school. I am experienced in supporting with breastfeeding/ mixed feeding, bonding and attachment, sleep routines, weaning, meeting developmental milestones, developing gross and fine motor skills, speech and language development, potty training, social and emotional development, behaviour management, home safety/accident prevention and oral health. I am experienced in supporting parents with mental health, anxiety and bonding with children.
More recently, I have worked as a Team Leader within a children's residential home, providing day-to-day care for children and young people with emotional, behavioural, and additional support needs. This role has strengthened my skills in building trusting relationships, managing challenging situations calmly, promoting positive behaviour, and helping children feel safe, secure, and valued.
Throughout my career I have worked closely with families, schools, healthcare professionals, and other agencies to ensure children receive the best possible support. My experience has given me a strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, first aid, additional needs, and the importance of providing care that is tailored to every child's unique personality and needs.
Above all, I believe children thrive when they feel safe, listened to, encouraged, and genuinely cared for. My goal is to provide dependable, high-quality childcare that gives parents complete peace of mind while creating a happy, stimulating, and nurturing environment for every child.
