About Me

Hello, I’m Nicole. I’m a 22-year-old psychology graduate - with extensive knowledge of child attachment & development!

I have 7 years of experience working with children & teenagers as an TEFL teacher in Thailand, teaching assistant, & babysitter.

I hold a current enhanced DBS, up-to-date safeguarding training, & I’m currently working towards a first aid certificate.

I’ve specifically supported children with special needs, including autism, ADHD emotional behavioural difficulties.
I also spent my teen years as a voluntary counsellor, which means I’m really aware of the importance of managing emotions & taking a person centred approach with every child.

I love getting to know children & helping them understand themselves & their emotions better.

I am committed to doing the best for the children that I work with, with their wellbeing and their personal and social development always at the heart of what I do.

Outside of work & volunteering, I’m a creative & introspective person. I enjoy meditation, scrap journalling, dance, swimming, & fashion.
I am also more than happy to cook & tidy around the house - my favourite dish to make at the moment is Khao Soi, which was my go to comfort meal while living in Thailand!

My Experience

I’ve been a babysitter for family & friends for 7 years, looking after children aged 7 to 11. This included helping with homework, bedtime, bathtime, getting ready, & cooking small meals.

I also took children to their various extracurricular activities, making sure they were always on time and properly prepared for their clubs.

While at university, I volunteered as a teaching assistant in a secondary school, working with ages 11-17.
My primary focus was helping pupils who needed a little bit more help with maths, including students with special educational needs (SEN).
I used Positive Behaviour Support strategies & informal pastoral chats to help struggling students.

Sometimes the academics aren’t the real issue, & just taking the time to understand someone can make the difference. I always try to really listen to a child & help them work through their own problems, with patience & care.

Alongside this, I volunteered as a student reengagement and early years helper. I ran play and creative activities for the children at an after-school club, which I absolutely loved — it's where I first realised how much I enjoy this kind of hands-on, child-led role.

My main focus, though, was supporting a teenager who'd dropped out of secondary school. We talked things through together to figure out what was getting in the way of them going back to school, and worked out some practical next steps as a team.

I took things slowly and focused on building trust first — I find relationships always come before progress, especially with young people who've had a tough time.

By the end of my placement, the student had really come out of their shell; their confidence had grown so much that they started their application to go back into secondary school. It was a brilliant reminder that with patience and the right support, every child or young person can get there in their own time.

Most recently, I have been a TEFL teacher in a private kindergarten near Bangkok, working with 3-6 year olds. I’d never taught before - let alone on a different continent! - but I loved it.
I got to personally know each child individually & designed each lesson to be engaging & playful, so school never felt like “work” to them.

Outside of lessons, I was hands-on with all the day-to-day care too. This included school pickups, swimming, & extra tuition, as well as everyday routines like getting the children ready, nap times, toilet training, & helping fussier eaters actually enjoy their meals.

At the end of the year, every single student passed all exams, with the majority scoring full marks!
