My Summary
About Me
Hi, I’m Sophie! I’m a 21-year-old Psychology student at Newcastle University with a real passion for working with children. I’m friendly, patient and caring, and I love creating a fun, safe and supportive environment where children can feel happy and confident.
Working with children has been a huge part of my life over the past few years, and it’s something I genuinely enjoy. Whether it’s getting creative with arts and crafts, playing games, spending time outdoors, helping with homework or simply being a positive role model, I always aim to make children feel comfortable, encouraged and valued.
I have experience supporting children of different ages and abilities, including those with additional needs, and I understand that every child is unique. I pride myself on being calm, reliable and adaptable, taking the time to get to know each child and support them in the way that works best for them.
My Experience
Hi! I’m Sophie, a Psychology student at Newcastle University who is passionate about working with children. I’m friendly, patient and reliable, and I love helping children build confidence, learn new things and have fun in a safe, supportive environment.
As a university placement intern with Building Self Belief CIO I designed and delivered wellbeing, employability and financial literacy programmes for primary and secondary school pupils. I planned engaging workshops, created interactive resources and organised educational visits, while supporting children to develop confidence, resilience and essential life skills.
Through this role, I gained extensive experience supporting children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, FASD and behavioural challenges. Working closely with these young people has taught me how to adapt my communication and approach to meet each child’s individual needs, ensuring they feel safe, understood and supported.
Prior to university, I spent a year and a half volunteering at my local primary school, supporting children aged 5–11 in both classroom and one-to-one settings. I worked alongside teachers to support learning and behaviour, helped children with reading and maths, ran a weekly Friday Art Club, assisted with school performances and provided additional support for children with English as an additional language.
These experiences have given me confidence working with children of different ages, personalities and abilities, and have helped me develop a calm, caring and positive approach.
