About Me
I am a caring, kind and compassionate person who has always had a natural love for children. I have younger siblings who I have helped care for while growing up, as well as two younger cousins who are incredibly important to me and who I have helped look after since they were little. They are like my own babies and mean the world to me, which has given me lots of experience with caring for children and a genuine understanding of how important it is to make them feel safe, happy, loved and supported. I am a very thoughtful and creative person and I enjoy coming up with fun activities and finding little ways to make children feel special. I am also patient, responsible and approachable, and I always try to build a trusting relationship with children and make them feel comfortable around me. I am currently studying Psychology at Northumbria University and am particularly passionate about children’s development, wellbeing and mental health. I would love the opportunity to use my experience and passion for working with children to provide families with caring, reliable and positive childcare.
My Experience
I have several years of experience caring for children through my ongoing role as a childminder for two children, which I have been doing since November 2020. My responsibilities include preparing meals and drinks, organising and taking part in activities both inside and outside the home, helping with homework and reading, supporting bedtime routines and managing behaviour. I have also regularly cared for my younger siblings and cousins and provided informal babysitting for family members, giving me experience in caring for children of different ages and developing my patience, responsibility and communication skills. In February 2024, I completed work experience with the Early Help Service, where I shadowed an Early Help Worker, observed visits with families and gained an understanding of family support, safeguarding and the challenges families can face.
My Qualifications
I achieved 8 GCSEs at St Thomas More RC School and went on to complete A-levels in Maths, Psychology, and Philosophy and Ethics. I am currently studying for a BSc (Hons) Psychology degree at Northumbria University and have recently completed my first year. Through my Psychology studies, I have developed a strong understanding of human behaviour, child development, communication, mental health and wellbeing. I am particularly passionate about children and their development and hope to build a career supporting children’s wellbeing and mental health. I also have an understanding of safeguarding principles and the importance of creating a safe, supportive and positive environment for children.
My Availability
I have a flexible schedule and am happy to work around my university timetable and childcare commitments. I am unavailable on Mondays due to university from 9am–6pm. On Tuesdays, I have university from 9am–12pm, so I am available from 12pm onwards, including evenings. On Wednesdays, I have university from 11am–1pm, so I am available before and after these hours. On Thursdays, I look after a child from 9am–4pm, so I am available in the evening. I am otherwise available throughout the week, including Fridays, weekends and evenings, and I am happy to discuss specific days and times with families. I am also free every day except a Thursday in term holidays.
