Samantha
Private Tutor in London (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
I’m Sam, a medical doctor from South Africa, now living in London and completing a master’s in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at King’s College London on a Commonwealth Scholarship.
I really enjoy teaching and working with children, and paediatrics has always been a particular passion of mine. I’m looking for part-time childcare/babysitting and tutoring work with families and students in central London and the surrounding areas.
I can help with babysitting, general homework and maths, science and English tutoring for primary and secondary school pupils up to GCSE level. I am also happy to tutor medical students. I am patient and encouraging, and enjoy getting to know each child so that they feel comfortable with me. My aim is to help make learning feel more manageable, build confidence and take some of the stress out of academic work.
My Experience
I have previous experience tutoring and au pairing across different age groups, from pre school through to university, which I gained while I was in medical school.
Following medical school, I have worked for 4 years and have a year of clinical experience specifically in paediatrics, as well as experience in emergency medicine, psychiatry and other medical disciplines. My paediatric work has included caring for newborns, children and teenagers, and working closely with their families on an inpatient and outpatient basis. I also have clinical experience with children with additional needs, including autism, ADHD and developmental delay.
These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, clear communication and adapting to each child’s needs. I really enjoy helping children learn and seeing their confidence grow.
My Qualifications
I hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Cape Town, a Diploma in Child Health and a Diploma in Anaesthetics written through the colleges of medicine in South Africa.
I have also completed American Heart Association Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training.
I’m currently completing an MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at King’s College London as a Commonwealth Scholar.
My Availability
I’m available on Thursdays, Fridays and weekends, with daytime and evening hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday by arrangement around my master’s timetable. I’m based in Bloomsbury and happy to establish regular weekly arrangements or occasional childcare and tutoring.
