About Me

Sometimes a young person knows far more than they’re able to show when the pressure is on. I specialise in helping students preparing for Transfer Tests, GCSEs and A-levels build the confidence, focus and practical skills they need to manage exam pressure and perform at their best.

With a PhD in Education and more than 20 years’ experience across education, mindfulness and wellbeing, I combine academic expertise with practical, evidence-informed approaches to stress, attention and performance under pressure.

I support students with the subject matter they need to learn, while also helping them develop the skills and confidence to actually use that knowledge when it counts. Together, we work on study and revision strategies, exam preparation and technique, focus and attention, and building confidence in the material.

Alongside this, I help students understand how their brain and body respond to stress and give them practical tools for managing overwhelm and regulating themselves before and during an exam. The aim is not simply to know more, but to help students become more confident and effective learners who can access what they know, think clearly and perform at their best under pressure.

My approach is grounded in education, neuroscience, mindfulness and more than two decades of working with young people. Sessions are practical, supportive and tailored to the individual student. We look at what is actually getting in the way and develop strategies that work for them, rather than adding another layer of pressure or expectation.

The aim is not to eliminate nerves. Some stress is completely normal when something matters. It is to help young people feel better equipped to meet that pressure, access what they know and perform more confidently when it counts.

And importantly, these are skills that reach far beyond the exam room.

My Experience

I’m Elizabeth Welty, an educator with a PhD in Education from Queen’s University Belfast and more than 20 years’ experience working across education, wellbeing, mindfulness and human development.

Throughout my career I have worked with children, young people and adults in schools, universities and community settings, with a particular interest in how stress, attention and emotional regulation affect our ability to learn and perform.

My recent school-based work has included supporting GCSE and A-level students experiencing exam anxiety, as well as delivering yoga and wellbeing programmes for sixth-form students at St Dominic’s Grammar School in Belfast. I have also developed and delivered mindfulness programmes for primary and secondary-aged children across Northern Ireland, Ireland and England through my work with Reverse the Trend, with our daily mindfulness video series reaching approximately 89,000 children.

Alongside my work with young people, I design and facilitate programmes for university students and postgraduate researchers exploring attention, focus, motivation, stress and sustainable performance.

I am also a senior yoga and mindfulness teacher with more than 18 years’ teaching experience. My approach brings these different strands together: educational expertise, an understanding of the nervous system and practical tools that help young people feel calmer, more capable and better able to access what they already know.

My Qualifications

I hold a PhD in Education from Queen’s University Belfast and a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from the University of Denver, alongside more than 20 years of professional experience across education, mindfulness, wellbeing and human development.

I am a senior mindfulness and yoga teacher with extensive training and experience in contemplative practice, stress regulation and the mind-body connection. I have also worked as a MIND Ambassador with Reverse the Trend, developing and delivering programmes supporting the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of children and young people across Northern Ireland, Ireland and England.

My academic and professional work has given me a particular interest in the neuroscience of stress, attention, learning and performance under pressure. I have applied this through school-based programmes, university and postgraduate education, and individual support for young people.

Alongside my wider educational work, I work privately with students preparing for Transfer Tests, GCSEs and A-levels, helping them develop practical skills to manage exam anxiety, improve focus and approach high-pressure situations with greater confidence.

My approach brings together academic expertise in education with evidence-informed mindfulness, nervous-system regulation and more than two decades of practical teaching and facilitation experience.

PRIVATE EXAM SUPPORT

Initial Fit Session · £25 | 45 minutes
A relaxed first session to meet your young person, understand what they’re finding difficult and identify where support could make the biggest difference. We’ll explore what’s happening around stress, confidence, focus and preparation, introduce some practical tools they can begin using straight away, and make sure that working together feels like a good fit.

Individual Session · £35 | 45 minutes
Perfect for a student who needs some targeted support around a particular challenge, whether that’s exam anxiety, focus, revision, confidence or preparing for an upcoming assessment.

Block of Four · £120 | 4 × 45-minute sessions
For students who would benefit from a little more consistency. Four sessions give us time to build practical strategies, practise them together and adjust them around the individual student and the demands they’re facing.

Exam Prep Sprint · £150 | 6 × 45-minute sessions
A focused six-session programme designed for the run-up to an important exam or assessment. We’ll work together on managing anxiety, strengthening focus, building effective preparation habits and developing practical strategies for performing under pressure.

The aim is to create a personalised toolkit the student can actually use: before they study, when overwhelm hits, in the days leading up to the exam and, importantly, when they sit down in the exam room.
