About Me
My setting is called Mel's Childcare and I am located in Glenfields, Whittlesey and I have been childminding since 2004.
I am OfSTED graded 'OUTSTADING' Having continually maintained this grading since I first achieved it in 2008, and on my latest inspection in January 2022
I am a member of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) and I am also a qualified Makaton Tutor.
In 2010 my partner John joined me as an assistant which has been received very positively as it allows your child to interact with a male figure during their day.
I offer a friendly, caring homely environment where your children can learn through play and enjoy making new friends.
Most of the families I care for have come to me through recommendations from existing parents and word of mouth. Any anticipated vacancies I may have are usually filled in advance of the space becoming available so even if your requirements are for a date many months ahead please do not hesitate to make contact as I will happily keep your number on file to make contact nearer the time if I can help.
My Experience
I have cared for children from 4 months of age and cared for children on Individual Learning Plans and with specific areas of development.
I have used Makaton (Mr Tumble) signing since attending my first training session in 2008 and in 2022 fulfilled my ambition of becoming a qualified Makaton Tutor so I can share my passion and the benefits of Makaton with others. In 2022 I also completed my Speech and Language level 3.
I have cared for children from pre school age through to secondary school and have many siblings that I care for.
Both myself and John are level 3 qualified, and we have completed pediatric first aid, level 2 food hygiene and advanced safeguarding children training. I have also completed numerous other training opportunities in line with my childminding career and I am also a qualified tutor for the Professional Association of Childcare and Early Years delivering level 3 training to other Early Years providers.
I am qualified to deliver the FREE government funded hours for 3 and 4 year olds and have done so on many occasions and I am also able to offer free funded hours for qualifying 2 year olds.
My Qualifications
I have numerous qualifications outside childcare so decided as this is now my chosen path that I should get recognition within this profession and in 2009 I completed two years at college and achieved my NVQ level 3 in Childrens's Care, Learning and Development.
I have also been recognised for high quality childcare as I have completed a one year Quality First award which is backed by the governments Investors in Children programme.
I also hold a Paediatric first aid certificate and a level 2 Food Safety award.
I have also undertaken numerous training opportunities in line with my childminding career and I am also a qualified tutor for PACEY. In 2022 I completed my level 3 award in Speech and Language and also qualified as a Makaton Tutor.
My partner John who is also my assistant has completed the Children and Young People's Workforce NVQ at level 3. This will mean that your child will be cared for in a homely environment where those responsible for keeping your child safe and encouraging their learning and development through play will be qualified at level 3 and our qualifications are classed as 'Full and Relevant' according to the criteria laid down by the Department for Education.

If you are looking for childcare and I cannot immediately help then I am more than happy to keep your number on file to call you back when I know I have spaces as things can change.
It is never to early to enquire about a space, If it is for a date several months in advance then I may not be able to guarantee a space so far ahead but will always keep your number or email on file and make contact closer to the time.

My Fees
- Childminding from £4.75 per hour
I provide morning and afternoon snack and lunch if your child is with us at the appropriate time and I do not charge for these meals. My current hourly rate is £4.75 an hour with preschool siblings offered at a discounted rate.
I do not charge any extra for attending local toddler groups and I attend Busy Bodies Soft Play at The Manor regularly without cost to parents.

4 years ago I made a nervous phone call looking for the perfect person to look after my daughter. 4 years later I have a second child with Mel and John and a second family. Mel and John have provided outstanding support and love to my daughter and have nurtured her into a beautiful little girl inside and out. They carefully choose activities that inspire her and develop on her skills, knowledge and personal interests, they have taught her to be kind, compassionate and given her a unquenchable thirst for exploration and life. They have taught her to be inquisitive and intelligent, to be brave and to always look after others but more importantly they have invited her into their hearts and their family so that she feels secure and happy and I know she will always be part of their lives. Mel and John have provided me with flexibility when life has been hard and provided childcare around my term time needs, they have supported our entire family in ways that I cannot explain and I will be eternally grateful for and have helped my daughter grow and adjust to life's challenges, from leaving me as a 1 year old to transitioning into primary school. There was never any doubt that they are the perfect people to start the process again with my son. If you are looking for a childminder then they can cater to your every need, ofsted outstanding, leading in their field, makaton trained, flexibility in hours and delicious food for lunches. If you are looking for that extra mile and to extend your family and fill it with love, laughter, care and compassion then Mel's childminding are truly the perfect option for you. As a teacher, I can honestly say the setting and the attention to planning and delivering education activities that build on prior knowledge and capabilities and inspire new learning is flawless. As a parent, finding Mel and John is the best decision I have ever made. I am privileged to have my children in their care.

My child has been going to Mel and John for the last 3 1/2 years and it was the best decision we ever made for her. They are so warm and all of the Children form strong bonds with them both, which is exactly what you want when you leave a child with someone else. Mel goes out of her way to make sure that the Children are busy learning and having fun, resting when needed and giving breakfast, lunch or snacks in a perfect routine. Both Mel and John get to know the children individually and the same is true for the Parents too, they always know what's going on in our lives and how best to support the children.
My little girl is now at school and I desperately wanted to keep her with Mel and John instead of going to the after-school club and we have been able to work this out to keep her where she feels at home.
Childcare at this outstanding level is like gold dust and we feel very lucky to have found them both.

Wow, Thank you. What a wonderful thing to say. I have to say looking after your little one and watching her flourish over the years has been an absolute pleasure and I'm glad she's still able to come after school and she's not so little now either! How time flies. :-) Thank you.
You simply can't fault the childcare provided by Mel. She goes to great lengths to provide the perfect environment for your child to grow and develop with plenty of variation and attention to your little one's specific needs.
