About Me

Hi, I'm Rachel and here's a little about myself. I'm 21 (Please do not be put off by my age, I can assure you that I am mature enough to take on this role), a British Citizen, I have recently received my DBS Check (Enhanced Certificate) and I have also recently attended a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Course, which I have passed and received my certificate for. I live 10 minutes away from Colliers Wood Station, which is on the Northern Line.

At the moment, I am teaching myself British Sign Language. It has always been an interest to me and I hope to get a qualification for it. I have enrolled to do an online course so that I can achieve my Level 1 Award in British Sign Language. I will still continue to look up different materials online and read my book and hopefully I'll be able to pass without any problems! On the 06/09/13, I also enrolled for a Level 3 NCFE Award in Childcare course online at an Open College, which I have nearly completed. At the end of the course I will receive a Level 3 NCFE Award certificate of achievement. It is really good because it means that I can still work full time but at the same time, gain those qualifications that I really want. I also passed my Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering at my previous work place, John Lewis.

It was my beautiful niece, Sienna, that made me get a better understanding of children. She just had her third birthday in May and I'm surprised about all the things that she says and does! It makes me emotional every time she does something new. I love watching her grow and how she changes and develops every time I see her! It's a wonderful thing watching a child grow up. I remember the day she was born, the first time I saw her smile, when she stared crawling, when she started saying words for the first time and now she's putting those words into sentences, learning everyone's names, singing songs, holding my hand and taking me on an adventure, it's absolutely amazing!

I think it is important to take charge but at the same time it is very important to have fun! Making sure that they are learning but enjoying their childhood at the same time! I studied BTEC Music in high school and achieved a distinction and I also have a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Music as well. I think Music is an important factor because it can help a person express themselves and their emotions. With my niece, I've noticed, she uses music to get her energy out, she could be dancing for ages and make me dance with her! (So cute!) or she could make me listen to her sing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' then tell me to clap for her, then blow kisses to the audience (Makes me laugh every time because she was only 1 when she learned to do that!) So basically I believe Music and being creative can make a child learn more and that's how I like to engage with children, through Music and with Arts and Crafts. I believe that we are here to teach and give children knowledge but at the same time children also pass on knowledge to us as well and teach us things that we never knew, which is amazing!

I honestly do not mind doing housework if needed, I find it quite fun to be honest! I have had a couple of jobs working in Catering so I have had to do jobs that are not so glamorous, for example, changing bins, working with the industrial dishwashers and pot wash, clearing tables and deep cleaning, so I can easily say housework will not be a problem.

I really appreciate you taking time to read my message and I hope to hear from you soon. If there's anything else that you would like to know, please feel free to email me or call me (email may be better as I may be busy or at work but I will get back to you as soon as I can!) Thank you! x
