My Experience

My journey into teaching began at Archbishop Sumner Primary School (SW9), where I gained invaluable insights into the primary curriculum and effective classroom practice. Starting as a teaching assistant and intervention teacher in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), I supported children’s development and delivered targeted interventions for those requiring additional help. This experience strengthened my organisational and time-management skills, deepened my respect for diverse communities, and instilled a strong sense of privilege in being an educator.

I am passionate about teaching because I want every child to feel valued, supported, and capable of success. Building positive relationships with students and families is central to my practice, and I use my friendly yet assertive nature to create a nurturing environment where children feel safe to take risks in their learning. I believe that a happy and secure classroom is key to achievement. To support this, I introduced mindfulness sessions to help students manage their emotions, build resilience, and develop a sense of well-being.

Currently, I teach in Reception at an inner-city school, providing an inclusive education that enables all pupils to progress. I work with children with diverse needs, including ADHD and ASD, and adapt my lessons to ensure accessibility and engagement. Through formative assessment, careful observation, and personalised tasks, I identify next steps and deliver targeted support that meets each learner’s needs.

In addition to my classroom role, I am the Spanish Lead for our school, overseeing the modern languages programme. I designed a new Spanish curriculum for the entire school, replacing the French curriculum previously delivered by an external agency. I also created bespoke assessment tools and engaging learning resources to ensure clear progression and high levels of pupil participation across all year groups. Developing this curriculum has been an exciting process, and I now deliver weekly Spanish lessons for all Key Stage 2 pupils.

Fluent in Spanish, I have extensive experience supporting pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL), particularly Spanish speakers. I use bilingual strategies and visual scaffolding to promote inclusion and language development, ensuring all children can fully engage with the curriculum.

Collaboration is at the core of my professional approach. I co-plan lessons with my partner teacher and have observed and provided feedback to colleagues, contributing to a culture of reflection and continuous improvement.

Creativity underpins my teaching philosophy. I design lessons that spark curiosity and integrate cross-curricular links to promote academic, emotional, and physical development. My classroom celebrates students’ work and individuality, fostering confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
