My Summary
About Me
**Looking for the right family in Birmingham**
Hello! I’m Rocío. I’m a warm, calm and thoughtful person, and I’ve always felt very at ease around children. One of the things I love most about being with them is how naturally they bring us back to curiosity and the little things: a funny-shaped cloud, a new word, a completely unexpected question, or a song they want to hear ten times because it still makes them laugh.
I think keeping that curiosity alive in ourselves matters, and it’s one of the reasons childcare has always felt meaningful to me rather than simply like a job.
Family means a great deal to me. I know that inviting someone into your home and trusting them with your children is a very personal decision, so I would never take that trust lightly. I’m respectful of each family’s routines, values and privacy, and I always want parents to feel that life is a little easier and calmer because I’m there. I’m playful and patient with children, but also dependable, organised and very aware of the responsibility that comes with becoming part of a family’s everyday life.
Learning is also a big part of who I am. I’ve spent most of my adult life combining work with further study, not because I feel I have to, but because I genuinely enjoy learning and developing new skills. I think that naturally comes into the way I am with children too. I love encouraging questions, helping with homework, discovering things together and finding little opportunities to learn through everyday life without making childhood feel like another lesson.
I enjoy reading, crafts, music, walks, imaginative play, cooking together and simply talking to children about whatever they happen to be fascinated by that week. I speak Spanish and English, so I’m also very happy to introduce Spanish naturally through songs, games and everyday conversation if that’s something a family would enjoy.
I lived and worked in London for six years and hold UK settled status. I’m currently in Málaga and organising my return to the UK, as I’m due to begin an MSc in Health Data Science in Birmingham on 28 September.
The Master’s is expected to require me to be on campus two days a week. I don’t have my confirmed timetable yet, and there may be some flexibility around those days, but I don’t want to promise anything until I know for certain. Good communication is really important to me, especially when a family is relying on me, so I’d always rather be clear about something early than create difficulties later. I’m hoping to have the timetable soon and I’ll update my availability as soon as I do.
Having combined work and study for many years, balancing the two is something I’m very used to and genuinely enjoy. I’d particularly love to find the right family in Birmingham so I can build a settled routine and give both parts of my life the time and commitment they deserve. For me, the right childcare role is much more than something to do alongside my studies. I’d love to find a family where there is trust, warmth and the possibility of becoming a familiar and reliable part of their everyday life.
My Experience
My experience combines early years education, live-in support and one-to-one work with children and young people with additional needs.
At Brookland Infant and Nursery School, I taught Spanish through play, songs, stories and movement. I learned how to adapt an activity when children were tired, shy or needed a little more encouragement, while keeping the classroom happy and engaging.
I also worked as a live-in special needs nanny for a young autistic adult, supporting daily routines, sensory activities, emotional regulation, outings and life within the family home. Living with a family taught me the importance of being helpful without becoming intrusive, respecting private space and noticing what needs doing without always having to be asked.
Later, I worked as a Keyworker and SEN Learning Support Assistant for an autistic student with an EHCP. I worked alongside tutors and therapists, adapted activities to the young person’s needs and kept careful notes about progress and wellbeing. These experiences taught me to slow down, observe before assuming, offer clear choices and understand that behaviour is often a form of communication.
My wider background in health, wellbeing and client care has also shaped the way I work. I am discreet, organised and attentive to hygiene, comfort and small changes in how someone may be feeling. I’m happy to help with meals, routines, homework, creative activities, outings and the everyday jobs that make family life run more smoothly. I’m particularly comfortable supporting children and young people who benefit from patience, predictability or a gentler pace.
My Qualifications
I graduated with First Class Honours in BSc Health and Social Care from Anglia Ruskin University in London. My studies included safeguarding, mental health and wellbeing, lifecycle development, health promotion, anatomy and physiology, and leadership in care.
I have also completed a Level 4 Award in EYFS Teaching Advanced and a Level 3 Award in EYFS and Teaching, both CPD programmes achieved with Higher Distinction.
My specialist autism training includes Understanding Autism, Autism and Communication, Autism Sensory Experience, Supporting Families, Women and Autism, and Autism, Stress and Anxiety. I have also completed training in Trauma-Informed Practice using PACE approaches and Foundations to Therapeutics.
In addition, I completed a 110-hour Nutrition and Dietetics programme covering children’s nutrition, recommended dietary intake, nutritional assessment, food hygiene and safety, and nutrition education. This helps me approach meals calmly and responsibly while always following the preferences, allergies and instructions provided by each family.
I have previously completed Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding in Education and Designated Safeguarding Lead training.
