About Me

Hello!

I am Hannah, I'm 24 years old and have recently graduated from Exeter University with a degree in Drama!

One of the reasons I enjoy working with young children is that I am highly creative and grew up with a love for Musical Theatre, Drama and English and regularly performed in local shows. I, therefore, thrive off working with others and enjoy using my creativity to engage and inspire children.

In 2022, I married Jack and moved to his family farm just outside of Crediton, Devon. Outside of work I enjoy looking after the animals on our family farm, and leisure activities such as Horse Riding, Wild swimming, Kayaking, Walking and Surfing.

My Experience

My experiences in life have enabled me to develop a nurturing and compassionate approach to others. I have over seven years of experience working with children and have gained a flexible, adaptive, and relational approach to working with children from various backgrounds. I have learnt how to empathically approach those in need with compassion and have a deep understanding of trauma and mental health since I grew up with two adopted younger siblings, both vulnerable, with special needs and mental health issues. I also currently help my in-laws with a live-in foster family.

One of the reasons I enjoy working with young children is that I am highly creative. Growing up I had a huge love for Musical Theatre, Drama and English and regularly performed in local shows. I love working with others and enjoy using my creativity to engage and inspire children. As a teenager, I spent a week each summer volunteering as a children’s camp leader at New Wine, England, where I helped lead Sports, Drama and Arts events. I also spent five years as a volunteer in my local church’s Sunday School, in which I helped assist lessons to primary school ages children and looked after the toddlers in the creche.

My first paid job was working as a Children’s Party Host in Romsey Rapids, where I was solely responsible for organising and delivering parties to children of different age groups. Here I learnt how to engage children, build relationships with them, and communicate with the parents to fulfil their expectations and provide quality service.

I then spent two years working part-time as a Nursery worker caring for children from 18 months to 4 years old. Here I enjoyed working in a team and building positive relationships with the children, staff, and parents and learnt how to develop consistent boundaries—the long days spent working here enabled me to build stamina and maintain energy with the children throughout the week.

During my gap year, I worked as a voluntary receptionist in a local high school in which I developed skills in administration, receiving phone calls, emails, photocopying, and other office duties. I also spent nine months in California; during this time, I co-led a weekly after-school club in which I planned and executed creative workshops and built relationships with the children. This experience helped me to learn how to manage challenging children’s behaviour and engage them in fun activities.

In my leisure time, I enjoy writing songs and singing, exploring nature in Devon with family and friends, and Horse Riding. During my time at University, I spent a summer teaching children horse riding at Budleigh Salterton Riding School; here, I led pony parties and gained experience teaching children of various levels of confidence and expertise.

While studying Drama at Exeter University, I specialised in Applied Theatre, which included working with and leading school projects. I worked with a team to provide workshops and performances for local primary schools, building a toolkit understanding of the ethics and skills needed when working with children. Furthermore, I have shown organisation through managing my time at University whilst helping run our family farm and being involved with projects, including ‘Just Love’, working with people experiencing homelessness and leading weekly events. I am creative and enjoy bringing a vision into reality; over lockdown, I created a project, ‘Wildflowers’, where I gathered a small team of women to encourage a group of teenage girls over Zoom weekly. We then lead regular sessions at a secondary school to build relationships with the young girls and discuss identity and mental health topics.

I have a clean UK driving licence and live on a farm near Crediton.

I look forward to hearing from you!
