My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Lydia. I'm 30, based in Islington, and about to begin a part-time MSc Psychology. I previously completed a BA in Philosophy at King’s College London, and I’m now expanding into psychology with a strong interest in child development, wellbeing, and play-based learning. I’m looking for flexible, mainly local childcare roles in N1/N7, ideally in the afternoons and early evenings, where I can build a consistent routine alongside my studies.
I love working with children - especially in ways that nurture their curiosity, imagination and sense of play. I believe children are naturally insightful and creative, and my approach is warm, patient and attentive, helping them feel secure, understood and free to explore.
Outside of childcare, I enjoy music (singing, guitar, songwriting, and listening to full albums), reading, photography, and spending time around nature and animals. I’m calm, reliable and thoughtful, and I enjoy creating a caring, engaging environment where children feel safe, happy and confident.
My Experience
I have long-term babysitting experience with four families (three of whom originally found me through this site). I’ve been caring for children since I was around 14 - originally in my hometown and now in London - and I’ve built strong, trusting relationships with families across different ages and needs.
I also worked as a nursery assistant for around a year, where I gained practical experience with early years care, daily routines, creative and sensory play, and supporting children’s emotional development. This role strengthened my confidence in managing groups and adapting to each child’s individual personality and pace.
Overall, I have many years of consistent childcare experience in both home and nursery settings.
I hold a BA in Philosophy from King’s College London and am now beginning a part-time MSc Psychology (Conversion), with a particular interest in child development and therapeutic work with young people. Supporting children while I study feels like a meaningful, natural continuation of my path - and something I genuinely enjoy.
